The DPI on Tru was pathetic too. Shitty refs are shitty. Real question, if correct call was made, could the Lions have gotten lined back up in 8 seconds from when the tackle was made?

Payback after that HORRIBLE OPI before. Like honestly the worst OPI call I've ever seen in my entire life.

By rule when inside the 2 minute warning on a running clock there is a mandatory 10 second runoff. He was called short of the goal line and inbounds so clock keeps running in any other situation.

Not to mention if they had ruled him short initially and since it was w/in 2 min's to go, the replay booth would've stopped the clock to review the play. I wonder if there would've been a runoff in that situation too?

Yes, since @ that point they were all on the field and within a few yards of the play. Plus if the Falcons would've tried to 'delay' the restart, the refs would've stopped the clock then anyways

It's extremely close. He has to also have possession and he looked like he got possession and his knee was down when the ball was centimeters within the goal line either way.

WAY too close for a conclusive overturn.

Sorry, but no.

The problem is the rules. If he bobbled the ball he would not have been down for the instant the defender as his hand on his shoulder when the ball touches his hand, and it would have been a touchdown. Yet, when you catch the ball at the back of the end zone you don't have it until you complete the catch 5 yards out of bounds. The problem here and the problem with almost every controversial call is the rules explaining what a catch is.

When is the ball actually caught. You can't be down before the ball is caught.

If his knee touched the ground it happened when it was blocked by an Atlanta players helmet and the refs would NOT have had indisputable evidence to overturn it.

See pictures...

This is the only moment that his knee could have touched the ground but 45's helmet is blocking the view to prove it.

When the helmet finally does clear, u can see daylight between his knee and the turf.

At this point his thigh and elbow are down. But no one is touching him...

He's still not touched unless 23 is touching on the back side of his helmet and the ball has broken the plane...

This is the exact moment his helmet moves from 23's hand touching him. No one else is touching him. Ball CLEARLY over the plane...

Atlanta's first game ended with the Bears inside the 5 also. both teams had at least 3 chances to score & win.

The instant the ball touches his hand an Atlanta player's hand his on his shoulder. The call was basically a catch, going to the ground after a defender has touched you. All your pictures are after the contact. My issue is that if the ball would have moved it would not have been down because the Detroit player would not have been considered to have caught it yet. In other words, if he would have bobbled the ball it would have been a TD. They basically said the moment the ball touched his hand it was a catch and he had possession; therefore, he was downed because at that instance an Atlanta player was touching him on his way down.

The NFL owes the Falcons a Super Bowl. They are going to get every break imaginable until that happens.

But he wasn't down until after he broke the plane! That's the whole point of this thread.

The stillshots being used are after his knee bounced off the ground. I hate the Falcons but watch the replay it's obvious he was down.

Tate down

1:08 mark

I can't post pictures from my phone but I looked at it in slo mo and it isn't even close. He was down 1/2 yard from the goal line. I have no idea what 3/4 of these posters are looking at.

I disagree. The holding call about three plays earlier that negated a Falcon interception was egregious. Game should have been over then. But it is a tough way to lose.
