I can't imagine that the talent on defense right now is any worse than some of the middle of the pack defense. No defense has superstars at every position. I think there s enough here right now to, at very least, be somewhere around top 15

This is stupid. You can't just ignore offense completely. In mean, hell, just look at it now when a majority of picks are Defense. O is now lacking.

My opinion is that the problem is coaching and making sure they know what they are doing. There was the Hogan play where PJ bit on the screen. He was man on Hogan. His fault. The DBs can't play zone. They can cover on the outside but Slot, TEs and RBs eat them up. I mean the Pats dressed 3 WRs and Hogan left the game at one point. It's getting rediculous at this point. It's like they are trolling us.

Off draft capital alone this team has some resemblance of NFL talent

The FA adds may not be superstar players but they are mostly solid adds

The defensive problems we are having is coaching issue.(mostly)

The top corners can play. Lattimore was a stud. PJ is serviceable and I'd Breaux and return to form, he can cover too. Vacarro disappears but they spent high picks on Bell and Williams. Klein is a decent LB. Jordan has the weight of the world in him in the Dline. There is talent at every level and we've seen it. It has to be coaching.

I like how I'm getting downvoted for saying Byrd sucked last year. There's a reason he's not on an NFL roster. There's a reason nobody even gave him a shot this year.

The offense has a ton to do with it as well. The two aren't mutually exclusive. The success of one has direct correlation to the success of the other.

If Sean Payton knows his defense isn't very good, why does he continue to try to pass the ball at the worst times? I can't tell you how many 2nd down and short situations in which the Saints fail miserably when attempting a pass.

Remember the situation when it was 1st and 20 deep in their territory after a penalty? My dad and I looked at each other and said "I bet they run on first down." They ran on first down. On second down I said "Screen" before the snap and the Saints threw a miserable screen pass. After than they threw an 8 yard out to the backup TE. CLOCKWORK.

The Saints don't know how to manage a game. They refuse to eat clock with the run game to give the defense a break and try to change field position. They can't help themselves but try to be stupid.

We have very good players, we just have a piss poor defensive coordinator. If Sean Payton doesn't fire him, he needs to be fired.

Byrd actually played solid especially second half. He's probably not on an NFL roster because he's doing an Adrian Peterson thinking he's worth 10 million+ when he's not.

This is a multilayered answer, but the truth is both. In some cases decisions have been made to take guys to fit a specific Scheme, a scheme that doesn't work.

Allen has this idea to play this crazy scheme of playing three safeties with Vaccaro coming down to cover the TE or play the run.

Then he wants to play a zone on the back end. With a lack of pass rush allowing receivers to get deep down field in the holes of the zone.

As we saw in the Pats game several times the Pass rush was almost at Brady just to see him throw off balance to an area of the field. In most cases these passes were thrown to anticipated areas in the zone that the receivers adjusted to.

I don't think we would look worse if we played two-high safety and man-to-man off the line.

I think we have the talent on defense, personally. CSP has made it a point to build up the defense & O-Line for the past 3 years.

We've drafted a ton of defense, & also drafted 2 O-Lineman in the 1st round. We traded Graham for Unger & the #31 pick(Stephone Anthony), traded Stills for Ellerbe & a 3rd round pick(PJ Williams), then traded Cooks for a 1st rounder(Ramczyk) & moved up in the 3rd round(Hendrickson).

CSP has the right idea imo, but the Dennis Allen experiment seems to have gone wrong though. Not sure if we should get rid of Allen now & roll with Mike Nolan as the new DC, or just wait until after the season to make a decision on Allen. CSP isn't going anywhere b/c of his contract, so I think getting rid of Allen might be the best move at this point.

The defense just looks so lost out there. Kind of odd, b/c they looked like a well coached & fast defense during the preseason.
