It's because every dumb expert always calls EVERY 3-4 OLB a pass rusher when that is far from true.

Most 3-4 teams have one "OLB" that rushes most of the time and another that is more versatile like Haralson.

Some teams, like the 9ers, have guys that can do it all at both spots.

So blame the media.

and i think we can do better and are still trying to do more of a conversion personnel wise to a 3-4 system. We also had a lot of production from the front lineman which is great but may not always be the case, and our LB production is too heavily dependent on Junior and the rest of the bunch is a lot of instability and mediocrity.

I disagree, he's got the tools to be more than that. And heaven forbid we take someone who actually excels in pass rushing anyways. We need more than just junior back there pass rushing the qb.
Yes he has the tools. That's why I said I am high on his potential(much higher than these other tweener pass rushers). But I'm not taking a risk on a one dimensional guy in the first outside of maybe Barr.

I think Barr at least has the passion and work ethic to go along with his size and athleticism to eventually become great. Lawrence I question a little more.

And we have other guys that can rush the passer so it isn't a NEED. But I'm not saying we should stay away from that either. Just don't think we need to reach for that in the first. Second round on I'm all good with it.

Depending on what's available, I'm thinking this is what I will be wanting us to do.

I think he's less of a risk cause you know you are getting a versatile position pass rushing fool.

Could we get a high 2 and another 3 for our first?

we have too many picks for Loomis and Payton. I can see us moving up a few spots to grab someone (possibly Mosley).

Yeah I went from not really wanting Barr to watching a little more and seeing him talk and deciding I like the guy and hope he lives up to the potential.

It's the want and passion along with his physical traits that I think can make a great player. Still a project for sure, but one I think has much lower risk than others.

I'm not ruling that out at all and depending on who is around at 19 I think it's a real possibility.

Only guy I'd want to trade up for is Mosley though and I think the Ravens are going to snatch him up(though I can see them trading up for Cooks too). We'd have to move up with Dallas I think to get him. That's going to cost a little more.

Barring someone falling close enough to grab though, if we stay put I think our best option may be a trade back.

Good thing is we get to see how it plays out tonight!

If we traded back and got a top round 2nd and a 3rd, we could possibly get Matthews, Martin, Desir, Dri Archer before we even hit round 4.

Yeah but they are going to shite the bed and trade up to take Clowney.

Also, I wouldn't be that upset if we miss on Lawrence as there are tons of options at pass rusher, CB, WR, LB, and yes even C in the 2nd round.

I honestly think the 2nd round is flush in all kinds of stuff we need. I wish we had 4 second rounders.

every year. 2nd rounders are like backup qb's... its the names everyone knows that thought they should have been 1st round talents... or guys that were unknown that have flashy combines and soar up.

I get that, but I was talking more specifically about what may be realistic at 27(may be very few or no guys at need positions) versus the value that can be had at many positions we should be targeting if we trade back.

I could see us using our extra 5th rounder and our 3rd rounder in order to move up if there's a guy they really like

like Cooks, Barr or Mosley

Definitely can see us doing it, just might not like what we give up depending on who we pick.

This year I think we have a real possibility of not sitting on 27 no matter which way we move. The value/need fit is much better a little higher or lower.

All depends on who falls and how far.
