I don't like it. Not to say I'd be disappointed getting v.davis, just not the best pick for us I feel.

I wish we would go out in Free Agency and get a CB. We spend draft picks every year hoping someone will step up and become a #1 corner. I agree we have a laundry list of 2nd tier DB's but dam its hard to see us draft another CB.

Is there a lock down CB in your opinion? Vontae Davis is what all the mock drafts have as the Saints pick.

Just asking you a question here. Do you think he was worth a 1st round pick?

You do know his brother is Vernon Davis? Maybe the bigest over paid POS in the NFL. FWIW

Um..We tried addressing the Cornerback problem more in FA than in the draft (Jason David, Randall Gay), We only used a 2nd rounder on Porter and a 4th on Young and im not counting a 7th on David Jones

From reading this thread, I will assume Mel is up to his old tricks again. He must have match made the Saints with a cornerback. One: it shows his ignorance of the Saints. He hasn't broken them down enough to realize their biggest problem has been lack of speed overall on defense & a shitty passive scheme. Two: he will change his mock draft every day between now & the draft, putting together 100 possible different combinations, so he can say on such & such day he was right about who each team would pick.

I was thinking the same thing, Prom.

Here is a link for the first 16 picks.

So, Helmet Head thinks we'll take a CB when Laurinaitis and Cushing are both not taken yet, according to his mock?

Unless he's using the "take the best player available" approach, in which the Saints should trade down and get a later first and maybe a second round pick out of that deal to take either of those two LBs.

i don't know if JL or BC fit what we need at LB

JL is an undersized MLB, and we have a MLB

BC is more of a 3-4 rush LB than a true WLB

That's what I've heard about Laurinaitis, but the idea is to move Vilma outside. I heard about that idea somewhere on the interwebs, but I don't remember where.

For what it's worth, isn't Clay Matthews USC's 3-4 edge rusher? I think Cush played inside, right? Again, he'd move Vilma outside.

ETA: USC's site lists him as a "strongside linebacker."

I don't know how I feel about moving Vilma outside and how that would affect his signability. As far as how it would work on the field, I'd be all for it. That's some bigtime athleticism at LB for the Saints when you compare it to Fujita and Shanle.

You do realize that its always a huge gamble drafting a CB in the first round? Its hit or miss drafting these guys and its really hard to tell the difference between athletes. You can end up with a player that sucks and a big contract you cant get rid of. My hope is the Saints go LB in this draft and make a safe pick.

whoever turns out to be the top CB, will definitely be worth the 14th pick. Whether its Davis or someone else.

Alex Molden? At the time he was.

I agree here. IMO, you don't draft a CB that high unless it is as sure-fire lock as one can get. Also, IMO, the Saints top draft need is at S. A great safety can make our returning CB core look better instantly. They need to take the best player available at S, LB or OL and wait on a corner and RB.

IMO at no time was Alex worth being picked where he was. Esp. when you consider Eddie George, among others, was on the draft board at the time the Saints picked.
