Kiper Draft 1.0
Posted on 1/19/17 at 2:41 pm

His first draft has Saints taking Reuben Foster at 11, But it's interesting that his list doesn't include many DEs in the first round like other drafts I have seen, only 4 go in 1st, 5 if you count Allen. Barnett falls to the Falcons at 31
1. Myles Garrett DE
2. Mitch Trubisky QB
3. Jonathan Allen DL
4. Jamal Adams S
5. Mike Williams WR
6. Marshon Lattimore CB
7. Cam Robinson OT
8. Buga
9. Solomon Thomas DE
10. Deshaun Watson
I don't hate Foster at 11, as we need playmakers at all 3 levels of our defense, but with all the talent at DE it seems like a waste to pass one up. I'm fine with taking a chance on an athletic pass rusher who may be raw, but I think we need an edge rusher regardless of what we do in free agency there. This could just be me glossing over things, but I feel like edge rushers drafted this high don't miss as often as other players, at least not major busts anyway.

This guy year in and year out goes 1 for 32, 2 for 32 if he's lucky, on his mock drafts. He's one of the worst in the business at it. So it doesn't surprise me at all that he doesn't have many DE's going in the 1st. Which means we'll likely see at least 5 go before pick 33.

For now, if Barnett is on the board at 11 I think it's a no brainer. Time will tell after the combine and pro days. Foster will improve the team and help sure up MLB, but Barnett will provide an immediate improvement in rushing and give solid run support.

Barnett, S.Thomas, or Reuben.
Give me one of those 3 and im happy.

I agree with you, I think Barnett would be my guy over Foster if both are available. I want to see how Foster runs, as I think in todays NFL you need top notch atletecism at MLB. Look at our division in the spot, Kuechly, Levonte David and Debo Jones are all real speedsters. If Foster runs below 4.6, then let's get him. But we need to generate a pass rush more than anything, and Barnett has done that really well, along with being a solid run defender. Hopefully we see a 1-2 QBs off the board, at least one WR and maybe 2 RBs in the top 10.
It's gonna hurt when Leonard goes to the Panthers though.

I like Foster over Barnett. If the division has Freeman, Coleman, Martin, Stewart and Fournette in it then Foster would be very nice to have. Actually with the above mentioned if Fairley wants too much trade our first and second to get Allen who would be a monster with Rankins, Jordan, and hopefully JPP. Thing is mock drafts are worthless now before free agency and the combine.

I don't even know why anyone puts out mocks before the combine. They change them every month and they are rarely even close to the end result. Only a few picks end up being right.

They do it so aceholes like us can banter about who we will get in the draft since our team sucks and isn't playing anymore.
Is it September yet?

The guy I want is Malik McDowell. Let him play edge and then he can rush the interior on 3rd down.

He'd be great to have in that role, but we already have Fairley & Rankins rushing the interior on 3rd downs. A guy that can stop the run & rush the passer as a 4-3 DE is ideal for us.
He'd be an acceptable pick if we don't retain Fairley in 2017, but we'd also have to find someone to get to the QB at DE. The only options we currently have are Kikaha & Edebali.

The thing is, you can get a pass rusher in the second. You can't get an elite middle linebacker in the second.
Let's take a second to imagine how 1/4 of this board would react if the saints drafted Foster in the first and Tim Williams in the second. For shits and giggles let's pretend Fournette is still on the board at 11

Hell any LSU player that is passed up will cause brown panty marks. fact.

Well McDowell plays around 270 and has by far the best get off for any defensive lineman in this draft. He's played a ton of DE at MSU. I think it comes down to Barnett and McDowell for the best fit for the Saints at DE. I choose McDowell for the versatility of being able to play inside and putting Kikaha at wide 9 with his hand in the dirt.

Myles Garrett will be a top 5 bust in NFL history

There's no way the Saints pass up Barnett if he's there.
I have a feeling that they aren't going to invest in the LB corps at all except maybe some Stupar, Mauti type guys.
But I do feel like they will go after and spend some serious $$ on CB and a Guard and possibly spend a little on a DE like Andre Branch for depth.
That will free the Saints up to take either Barnett, Thomas or Foster in the 1st.
I hope I'm wrong about the LBs though. I want Zach Brown

oh please
he has 7.5 career sacks and 24.5 tfl in 3 years so kindly gtfo with this. Seriously don't understand ignorant hyperbole like this. You've probably watched McDowell play 5 times tops in his career and you're throwing around phrases like "by far the best get off"
Jon Allen and Demarcus Walker would take Malik Mcdowell's lunch money and then pimp slap his father if he was present and had something to say about it

Don't give me that stat crap. You haven't watched 5 mins worth of tape on McDowell, Allen, or Walker if you're really gonna say that.
Walker's get off is inconsistent and he lacks pass rush moves. He's much better suited to be a 3-4 DE than a 4-3 edge.
Allen is a DT all the way who is quick enough to play end sometimes. He's a monster inside. Enough said.
McDowell is a different animal compared to both of them. He's fast enough to be an edge player and strong/big enough to play inside while being technically proficient and consistent. McDowell looks like Allen on the inside fricking up plays left and right.
So don't give me that crap about Demarcus Walker being better than McDowell. Allen and McDowell are far more comparable and I'm not sure that Allen is even better.
