How is he a legend? He is a former english teacher turned sports anchor who happens to call saints games. I don't get how he is a legend. He probably sucked as a teacher

So this is what you decided to do on a Friday morning.
ETA On two different boards.

I'd post something funny in response to your ridiculous topic, but this thread will be anchored/deleted. So.....

Jim Henderson and Archie Manning were my favorite booth team of all time. They blended perfectly -- Jim's kinda smart-alecky East Coast college man with Archie's good ole boy.
Henderson is an excellent PBP man. It's not just because he's local or been around a long time. He's just good.

Jim and Archie.....was just the best. All of my early saints memories revolve around them. My dad and I were on our way to a preseason game against Buffalo and our car broke down. Listened to the game on the radio waiting for a ride. Made the whole experience ok.

Distinctive voice undoubtedly identified with the New Orleans Saints and he's called our games since our first playoff season in 1987 so there's the longevity factor. You think Philadelphia Eagles PBP you think Merrill Reese, you think New Orleans Saints PBP you think Jim Henderson it's that prominent association.

More of a legend than Jim Hawthorne and he's worshipped for some reason

You have no idea how special Jim Henderson is to us old timers. Back in the day we were forced to listen to Saint games on the radio because the games were blacked out locally. He so eloquently called games that he made it seem like you had a front row seat inside the Dome. So go play in traffic you fricktard

For some reason, even though I watched it live, JH's call of the NFCCG Porter pick has completely vanished from my mind.
It has been replaced by the Minn booth call: "Why do you even ponder passing???", "This is not Detroit man, this is the SUPER BOWL!!"

Anyone old enough to remember former Saints play-by-play announcer Wayne Mack (1970's - early 1980's),know why Jim Henderson is so beloved. As someone noted earlier Saints home games in the 1970's were always blacked out locally so you were forced to listen to the games on the radio if you weren't there in person. Mack was infuriating to listen to. Everytime there was a fumble in a Saints game he would scream very excitedly ("the SAINTS recoverd the ball!"), then about 20-30 seconds later after the scrum was unpiled he would say "oh nooo the FALCONS (or whoever the Saints were playing) have the ball." This happened several times a game without fail. Infuriating.
