Even when healthy, his impact on the game is non-existent. He's never in position and is always a step (or 2 or 3) late on every play.

Enough already. Waive his arse and let Vonn Bell learn on the go.

i wish byrd to have a good year but i'm not sure he can achieve a good enough year where we don't cap cut him this offseason.

You can't see the deep secondary on TV so my question to those at the game is: how were we playing Byrd and was it his breaks on the ball that were late or the way Allen had him positioned?
Watching on TV you wouldn't know we had a FS in the game.

The scheme is retarded and a waste of our players.

On one big gain that looked like it was on Byrd it was a deep crosser with Byrd way back on the other side. He followed the play properly but the under guys weren't nearly deep enough and it was an easy pass.

I saw enough last year, in the preseason, and in that first game to know Allen's passing defense scheme sucks the big one.

This.

On most plays I thought Byrd was an EMT dressed in a uniform, arriving after each play to check on the condition of the players.

That isn't on Byrd though.

Ryan bitched about this exact thing happening last year (and that it was Payton and Allen's call which it was).

It's a horrible way to do things and a waste of his talent. That's not how he was used when making the Pro Bowl in Buffalo.

I wonder how much athleticism he lost during injuries. Byrd has elite instincts, but he never had the football athleticism of other single high safeties (Thomas III, McCourty, Harrison) so the second he even slipped a little it wouldn't be pretty.

he was taking DEEP drops all game. John Chavis like DEEP drops. We started out in cover 2. that gave them too much underneath. then we went to a cover 1 with just byrd back deep center of field. vaccaro may have been playing more in the box or helping with nickel. but i did watch byrd all day.

He was 30+ yards off the line again. Disappointing

yup. basically wasting a player we need up closer to prevent first downs. he can still be there to help over the top in middle on sideline and play closer. it is nuts. IDK if DA is using the old chavis mindset of make them put a long drive togther and they are more prone to make a mistake or get stopped....so why give it all up in one play...problem is playing that FAR back really helps the other team nickel and dime us to death with no worries.

they killed our zone coverage also. we're better off playing man and getting help from two safeties up top in a cover two man under scheme WHEN the down and distance will allow it. or even cover 1 man under.

Whenever the NFL decides to give season tickets holders the game pass log in, I'll post some screenshots

That would be awesome so post away

Its one of the things you miss most not being there in that you can see the whole field and watch the play develop.

Why are we harping so much on the secondary when, as a whole, the NFL is a passing league with rules built around protecting players and giving offenses easy first downs with stupid, retarded, dumb calls like illegal contact?

The secondary would look so much better if the Saints could elicit a pass rush. That just seems to elude the Sean Payton era defenses and it will continue to be a problem this year.

How I can see it and they refuse to adjust is just bonkers.

I mean we've brought in a lot of new faces over the past few years in the front 7 and have $12 million on the books for Junior.

I think they understand the importance of pressure.

Well to be fair Jr was a double digit sack guy...but a triple digit a$$hole.

Kikaha was drafted to rush the passer and we got Fairly and Rankins to push the inside.

We are trying just no luck is coming are way yet. The breaks are all the wrong kind as well
