DE: Jordan , Rankins
NG: Davison/Onyemata
LB: Klein, Stupar, Anzalone
CB: Lattimore, Breaux
High Safety: Marcus Williams
Strong Safety: Vacarro
Nickel: Either PJ Williams or Von Bell

For run heavy defense in this formation:
Play Bell at the Nickel and Vaccaro closer to the line of scrimmage.

For heavy pass defense in this formation:
Play PJ Williams at Nickel and blitz any of LBs.

Considering that the biggest issue for the saints is getting pressure, I'd say no. The loss of Fairley really fricked us. I bet our draft would be different if we knew his condition before

It's a stopgap.

It is just used to try to stop the passes from being completed.
We need actual pressure.

Right now it looks like only 2 down linemen can rush the passer: Jordan & Rankins

Pressure will have to come from other places if Okafor is a Bust.

Rankins isn't really built to play nose, and his skill set isn't suited to it. He's a pure 3 tech.

In a 3 man front he'd play one of the end spots (on the side with the rush backer). Davison and Onyemata would rotate nose in those packages.

All that said, I think we'll mix it up a bit but I don't see Okafor or Kikaha playing upright too often. I think they want them hand in the dirt rushing.

Don't think Rankins has the size to play the nose. He's under 290 pounds. He would probably have to be an end in a 3 man front.

In today's NFL, the base defense is basically nickel, so assuming you can stop the run it should work.

So where does Kikaha and Okafor fit into these plans? And Tyeler Davison is more a NT than Rankins.

Changes made at NG and DE.

Kihaka and okafor are back ups at defensive end to Jordan and Rankins.

Even if you play a 3-3-5 the third LB is going to be a rush backer.

Kikaha and Okafor would rotate that spot and then you have the Mike and Will. There is no Sam on most downs in a 3-3-5.

Whether you want them to or not Kikaha and Okafor are going to combine for starter (67% or more) snaps. The Sam is only getting between 25-33% of the snaps.

Also no way in hell Stupar starts over Robertson.

At the moment I'd say Klein may start at Mike (they play almost every down) and Robertson and Anzalone will rotate at Will (generally 67-75% of the snaps). T'eo and Anthony will likely get minimal snaps and be injury fills (unless one of them actually beats out Klein). Stupar and Anthony will likely split the few Sam snaps.

No I still believe Okafor, Jordan and Rankins will be able to provide pressure and try to slow down the run despite whoever is playing beside Rankins.

This might be the dumbest idea I've seen yet for the defense.

My question was posed to Knowingabyss..... whose depth of thought is probably an Abyss.

We may have to go with the 2-3-6.

We don't have enough pass rushing linemen to run a 2-3-6 scheme.

Hehehehe
