Also been drinking though.

Happy Friday Saints Talk!

Buh-bye Cooks! Let's build a not shitty defense!

People are freaking out because someone reported that the Titans were willing to give up 18, which may not have been true.

The deal is fine to me, do not understand why people are buying into this we got trade raped montra

But why decide now?

Even if Titans didn't offer up #18, there is smoke. Eagles, Pats, maybe another player. You have almost 2 months to the draft.

If this was best offer, I'd keep Cooks.

Because Patriots I think.

Who knows what the Saints were actually offered. I bet then 3rd for 4th swap was what the patriots added to "sweeten the deal"

Because you don't have to make that trade. Sometimes do nothing is the better option

That's what I mean, just because we traded with the patriots does not mean we got trade raped. It's ridiculous

We would not get this type of value for cooks next year, it's the same reason the pats trade Chandler Jones for a 2nd, his contract goes to 8 mil after next year and then he will command top $.

It's obvious cooks is not worth that big of pay check, he is a high end 2 receiver

My outlook is pretty simple. If we convert his talent into equal defensive talent then it's a success.

Big if....but I'm hopeful.

I'm happy because this draft is defensive heavy...my only fear is hoping our staff doesn't frick it up.

I agree with all of this.

My skepticism comes from the deal itself and the timing - 2 months before draft.

Even if the Titans/Eagles smoke was just that - smoke. There was very little benefit to make this trade today. Worst case no one offers as much and you lose value in trade or keep Cooks. Logical case states this deal is still on the table prior to draft.

I'm fine with. The Saints are going to be in the top 3 in passing next year with or without Cooks. Now you have two picks in the top 32 to go to work on fixing the thing that's long been holding the team back, the front 7.

Could they have gotten a better deal? Maybe. But with Brees at QB I'm not all that worried about losing a WR (OL or DL would be a different story)

It happened tonight because we would have owed him close to a million dollar roster bonus come this weekend and we wanted to save that money....
