If we trade for Carr and it doesn't work out, we're screwed for 4-5 years

We already can't start trying to rebuild until AFTER next year, due to our cap situation.
If we add a high-priced guy like Carr to our cap situation, we're going to nuke what little hope we had. We won't be able to do anything with Carr without re-working his deal, which makes cutting him impossible. If he doesn't work out, we are F'd.

And if he does work out, our Super Bowl window is instantly re-open with our top 5 defense, two young weapons at WR, a still elite RB, and borderline top 5 O-line.

We are not trading anything of value for him, if we do. He most likely forces his way to a release and we would simply sign him.

I agree with you, but I think at this point, the desire for a true rebuild is something to give up
Underhill and Triplett said on their latest members only podcast on their site that the Saints feel internally they must compete this year in order to make the financials for the business work (to turn a profit). So they may not go all in kicking the can, but they're absolutely going to try to be aggressive for a QB.
Personally I would prefer to just sign a cheap vet and try to make it happen in the draft (or future drafts), but knowing that they feel they must compete at the organizational level, and knowing that DA probably knows he is on the hot seat, I think they're gonna go about as all in as they can, short of nuking the cap again

The team doesn’t have a “rebuild” in mind. They hired Dennis Allen to maintain consistency thinking they can win the division and make the playoffs. They tried to trade for Watson and moved up in last years draft. They didn’t fire Allen and they didn’t make big staff changes.
If they make the trade for Carr it’s because they think they are a QB and a few other players away from winning.
I’m not saying they are correct, but that is were the front office’s thought process seems to be.

As someone said similar to my view as well...the "Saints are at a crossroad." Which path does Loomis take.
It was fairly split last year but I think it now leans heavily towards clean up the roster, get more not less picks and start clearing dead money.
Having a crap division feeds right into those in the FO who want to win now.
We will see but it looks to be trending to the win now kick the can somemore crowd

Would rather 25 year old Hendon hooker with 4 years of college experience, with two as full starter 55tds 5 int instead of Carr but that’s just me. The 2024 Draft is what I’m excited about. Carr would screw that up. Sure saints would win the south but get trounced by a better wild card team at home. So what.

We have to kick the can just to get under the cap without Carr. Imagine what we have to do to fit Carr in.
And it makes no sense financially because "kicking the can" means "paying huge signing bonuses" which has to make profitability in 2023 more difficult.

Having a concern or an opinion shouldn't equate to melting. Even if it's somewhat negative.
Of course the Saints think they are still in win now mode, but some of us don't think DA is the guy and would rather rebuild. We shall see. I don't think Carr is worth it, but could easily be proven wrong. I figured he would cost too much for the type of play he puts out.
I think it'll take a 3rd and another pick to get him. I just don't know that he's worth the potential contract and picks.

Do you really want a starting QB that wears eye liner? We need to just bri g Dalton back or someone like him for under $5 million on a o e year deal and then draft a couple QBs until one hits. I would say frick it and start Taysom at QB next year. Who cares?

A 3rd, perhaps, but I'm not even sure about that. The raiders will cut him before February 15th, so they have no leverage. Carr has a no-trade, so I don't even know why he would agree to one before being cut. He can sign with whoever he wants after he's cut

I would take either Baker, TBridge or Dalton. Whoever believes in themselves enough to be a starter for 5 mill or less with incentives tied to us going to the playoffs with starts get the job.
If it doesn’t work out and we miss the playoffs, we have a high pick for next years QBs, who are better, Allen is gone (hopefully) and our cap is in much better shape.
Win win all around.

On the bright side, if we are able to get Carr and it fails, it would pretty much spell the end of both Loomis and DA. DA would be fired and Loomis would be promoted higher up and replaced with Ireland.
