Tunsil is sued by his step father for assault. In fairness it does sound like he assaulted him in defense of his mother, so props to him; however, we all know how things like this can cause a player to fall. Plus there's chatter that some teams value him lower than other LTs.

So if he is there at 12, what should we do? Keep in mind we drafted Peat last year to the the eventual RT. PFF had him rated fairly well there, but they had him rated poorly at Guard.

I think it's a tougher choice to make than it appears to be at first glance (my initial thought was YES, but I'm not so sure now).

UPDATE: Below is PFF's rating of Peat last season. This is good info in discussing what to do.

quote:

13. Andrus Peat, OT, New Orleans Saints

2014 PFF College grade: +27.8 (fourth-highest OT in class)

2015 PFF NFL grade: -5.0 overall, +2.2 at offensive tackle (29th-highest OT in NFL)

While he graded negatively overall, it’s worth pointing out that Peat actually graded positively in 197 snaps at offensive tackle, with his negative grades coming in his starts as a guard. Given that he is likely to spend most of his career at tackle, that’s a good sign.

I cannot imagine the Saints would be able to turn down the type of trade offers they'd get if Tunsil fell to 12.

if he drops to us then there is a reason and a major red flag that the public doesnt know about. but this of course wont happen and he will be picked in the top 8

You could then throw Armstead right on the trade block. Would bring a great return.

Tunsil Bosa and Ramsey are my top 3. If he's there at 12, I'm walking to the podium like prime time Ric Flair.

Then what do you do with Peat and Armstead?

- Tunsil to RT, Peat to G

- trade Armstead instead of paying him. Gain more future picks. Tunsil to LT

-trade Peat

Start Tunsil at RT.
Armstead remains LT.
Peat to train exclusively at LG and start the season there.

I like this one the best, but I do have concerns that Peat will stink at guard

Armstead is the real deal, and I don't want him going anywhere. With that said, if he commands too much then maybe this is a good option

-trade Peat

I doubt we get anything good in return

I'd like to hang on to Armstead. He's a top 3 LT

Armstead - ? - Unger - Peat - Tunsil

You could plug Lelito in there and it would be fine

PFF's grade of all 2015 1st Rd rookies

quote:

Based on this, I don't think Peat shouldn't be anywhere but RT. Granted he could improve at G, but it does seem like a bad idea.

I don't think the Tunsil pick is as easy of a decision as it sounds. I believe we would have to work for a trade down in this scenario.

i like armstead a ton. just throwing out options. joe Thomas reportedly was going to command a 1st & 2nd rd pick. Armstead could be in the same area.

i dont think Tunsil falls anyway. And we'll prob ink Armstead to a monster deal.

It's certainly possible given the latest developments. If teams don't have him as a clear #1 T on the board, then this lawsuit could scare them away from picking him in the top 10. Just last year we watched that LSU guy not get drafted (I shudder to mention his name out of fear of a ST flooding)
