Is he big enough to play DE in a 4-3?

I looked it up, he's stouter than I thought. 6'3" 286 lbs. Just seems like a weird fit to me, but I guess not.

Absolutely! Take anyone from bama, who cares about his past injuries!

Former bama players will make the saints great again!

Depends if we re-sign Fairley. If we do, no cause it's not a need and we have depth there. If not, then he's definitely in the conversation.

Ummm... yes. How big do you think 4-3 ends need to be?

So is he a DT??? I apparently have zero clue what this guys position is. I was think 3-4 OLB, then DE, now DT.....???

I'd like to better understand the injury concerns.

If he falls to 11, something tells me there is a significant problem...like losing a season or chronic injury potential.

He's 6'3" 291lbs.

A lot of people aren't sure if he's a DE or really undersized DT. He's not a super speed rusher and he isn't built like a JPP, for instance.

I'd rather have Barnett if he's still there. If we somehow acquire 2 first round picks then I sure as hell wouldn't mind taking Allen with one.

imagine moving Allen inside w/ Rankins and getting a potential DE at 18 (should Saints get it from Titans)

Allen can play end for 2 downs and move inside on 3rd downs theoretically speaking.

This. The guy was sure fire top 5 pick. If he drops to 11, and DL was an area of need for any of the 6-10 teams ahead of us, I'd want to pass as well.

He won't fall all the way to 11.

Even if he does that means some better fits will be available. He's a 3-4 DE not a 4-3

No

He's scheme versatile. He's actually very very large for being a 3-4 DE. His body type is more suited to being a 4-3 3-tech but he could play 1-tech with his strength and athleticism. He's everything that everyone thought Rankins was/is/could be.

Apparently, bc everyone has their own ideas about him. He played standing up on the edge at Bama some. I remember that. Now hes projected NFL DT..... weird

Well where is he going to play if Fairley isn't resigned?

You trying to tell me the Saints are predicting Allen to drop so they're saying frick you Fairley?

At Bama he's been a 2 gap and 1 gap player. He's also been nose, DE, DT, and even stood up.

He's just an overall freak athlete. If he slides to 11 (and his injury isn't viewed as debilitating) then you draft him.

Isn't? 1 tech or 3 tech. It really doesn't matter with him. He'll just whoop the arse of whoever is in front of him

Whaaaa..? I don't know anything about Fairley and resigning. He's a solid DT but I don't think he's the center of gravity for the Saints defense in the future.

You're not getting it. The Saints aren't going to risk not signing Fairley Judy because Allen MIGHT fall.

Allen is a freak, no question or doubt about it. But Fairley just had a very productive season and you know you can at least sign him back. Why risk not signing him? What if Allen doesn't fall? Then you don't have anyone to play beside Rankins.

And yeah you could sign Fairley and draft Allen but we can't play 3 DTs. And I'm sure Allen would eventually take over so then we'd be paying Fairley for nothing.
