Brees did complete 70% of his passes compared to A-Rod's 65 though

That's almost comical to think of Brees on the same level as Brady.

No. It is comical.

Why?

So of you in here are ridiculous. You use rings to measure greatness especially QB. But there is no other position in sports that they relies more upon his teammates talent skill and production than the QB in football. Bradshaw has 4 rings is in the Hall of Fame but is never mentioned among the best ever ( No I do not think he is ). But you give Brady all of this praise because he has 5 rings. Anyone that doesn't include Brees in the discussion as being among the best ever is either stupid or delusional.

I think everyone has their favorites but I don't think you can say any one QB is the best ever. Their are too many variables IMO. Team they played for and the talent around him? Did he get support from his defense? More importantly what era did he play in?

I just want to point out that the Saints fans that normally ridicule you gave you four upvotes. Just shows how far off they are on this one.

1)Despite my infamy I'm actually the king of upvotes. Check out my post history

2)You wouldn't have come in to this thread to comment if there wasn't a small part of you that didn't think Brees might be better than Brady under identical circumstances. You're wasting your breathe to defend a guy with 5 rings, even though nobody is flat out saying Brees>Brady. In other words you're a big ole pussy

For anybody thinking there is a bigger Drew Brees fan.

I'm just telling you what I see. He's not the same guy anymore and it's being made obvious with subpar pass protection and WR play.

Brady and Montana are always going to top the list.

Brees is Joe Montana without Jerry Rice. Honestly, if Brees were running the 80s SF office he would have won just as many SBs.

Unitas only won one SB although he did win two "NFL Championships" and he is considered one of the GOAT.

In that context, Brees should be considered part of the discussion.

Brees is already IN the GOAT discussion.

He’s light years ahead of overrated Montana, about even with Brady, and rapidly approaching Manning status.

Brady is the GOAT, Montana is second and then you can throw him into the conversation with the rest.

I expect it will be as it is now.

When pundits and talking heads discuss the best of the best QB's in history the discussion is usually almost over when someone yells out..."hey and don't forget about Drew Brees" followed by nodding of heads and the segment then concludes

No Those records are misleading that’s years and years of average teams being behind and him padding stats. Doesn’t mean anything He’s no Brady or Rodgers

Can you not see how stupid this statement is?

That’s on par with throwing your favorite lure into a 5 gallon bucket and claiming it doesn’t work because you aren’t catching fish

Truest statement in the entire thread.

The question posed was "Will he be part of the GOAT discussion. Outside of an honorable mention, I don't think he will; but I definitely think he should. The problem he's going to face is he doesn't have an MVP (robbed by Manning) and he has several seasons where he missed the playoffs. Were as Brady & Manning have MVPs and were fortunate to play in week divisions.

For the Brady v Brees argument, you still have the missed MVP & several seasons not making the playoffs. But then you have the 5 v 2 (hypothetical from OP) and Brady will most likely finish top 5 in all major QB stats.

The problem he will face is he isn't considered the GOAT of his generation because the national media love Brady & Manning. I think he would need to win at least 2 more to get in the discussion and it would probably take 3 in a row to be recognized nationally in the same class as Brady & Montana.
