I know LB isn’t the greatest need but I love Payton Wilson from NC State

6’4” 240 with great speed and very smart. Love Cooper from A&M but Wilson is the better player. He would be Demario’s replacement but we have other needs ahead of LB so someone will get a really good player that captains their defense for the next 10 years. other players we should be looking at:

Wilson is a good player but a lot of injury concerns
And LB is a sneaky need area. Demario is still great but he’s old. Can Pete Werner take that next step? Can Willie Gay be a guy? Probably more of a next year question but wouldn’t hate a LB in this draft.

with the willie gay signing i dont think LB is as pressing a need as the lines on both sides of the ball are. we need depth in trenches badly.

I like Cooper and Trotter more than Wilson. There’s a lot of talent left in this draft. Not having a 3rd sucks this year.

We will get a 3rd or 4th. That’s going to happen. We aren’t keeping 4 5th round picks. You can package 2 of those 5ths with a 2025 3rd and move into the bottom 3rd or early 4th. Demario slowed a little last year, it was noticeable. We need to find his replacement this year or next year. That being said I fricking love the way Cooper DeJean plays. He’s a safety in the NFL. He and Howden could be the future at safety .

It’s not a pressing need but it may as well be one Demario will be long gone before we’re at contending level again (hopefully) so if you love someone go for it.

Not the prototype DA likes for his LB though. He likes bigger guys but I would take speed over size all day. This is why I think the Willie Gay signing will end up being the best move of the offseason.
