The obvious answer is related to the salary cap and the negative impact to competitiveness as a result of a huge deal. It's not simply because they don't want him to get the money like you suggest.

Correct, I'm not saying give Brees 5 mil and tell him to eat a dick. I don't want to wait another 40 years for another Super Bowl. It's now or a long time.

I think it is a moot point now. When Brees got his first $20 million/year type of deal I believe the Salary Cap was around 130 million, 20 million was a little over 15.3%. Now the cap is around $165 million, so $25 million is $15.1%.

You resign drew then you like 7-9

With Carr getting 25mil per year, Drew is definitely going to ask for that and a little more.
And that would hit the cap for how much more per year? 1-2 mil? Legitimately asking because it seems like he is almost at 25 mil now. The biggest concern with Drew should be how long his new contract may impact the Saints. As in will his contract impact the cap beyond his playing contributions with the Saints.

Pay the man his market value and thank god for every second he has been a saint. We could not have asked for a better leader and champion of the city and Team! 40 mil in dead money spent on scrubs and Saints fans complain about the money being paid to the one guy who deserves every cent!

Goddammit I swear most morons with this argument think, "Tom Brady takes a discount why can't Brees?!?! It's what winners do to win!"

Brady would win all time goat if he played his last year for free.

This is has to be one of the dumbest things I have read on here.
Do me a favor and go back the last 10 years. Look at the SB teams and their QBs. Look especially at the winning teams QB. You might see a pattern. Im not expecting you to though. You dont sound too smart.

This is because of lots of dead money contracts, not our future hall of fame quarterback.

Given the terms of his contract (unable to trade him and unable to franchise tag him) I suspect he will test free agency. The guy has plenty of money but only one ring. I could see him ending up in Denver, he would be a perfect fit up there and have the chance to win another super bowl before retiring. Assuming he has another typical Drew year and doesn't show signs of aging, other teams are going to show interest.
To keep him in New Orleans, probably a 3yr/60ish mil deal, that's only if he doesn't go looking for a ring instead.

The future is now and the reality is Drew Brees gives us the best chance to win a Superbowl the next 2 possibly 3 years. You have a young team with an old QB that is playing at an elite level still. Idiots are always about lets blow it up and start with something new when you do not have too. Yes we need a QB in the coming years but there is no need to press. Desperate franchises do that and look where it's got them.

Drew probably gonna look for a manning type situation where he can leave on a competitive team and leave with a super bowl.
He may not resign.

The whole "Drew's contract is killing the team" obsession by some is not only ignorant and completely false, but way overplayed on here. It's almost as bad as the "Saints should draft all LSU players... because LSU".
Educate yourself on how business in the NFL works before spewing such nonsensical foolishness.

So stop fricking paying for shitty free agents like Fleener and draft better for good cheap talent then maybe you'd have plenty to work with for someone who DESERVES it

Stop please
Unlike most teams we actually got superior play from our qb
Many 20 million qbs are meh or no where around Brees level
Be glad we dont have Cutjer Kaep Eli etc although Eli does have 2 ships
