Honestly, will the Saints think about drafting Collins at any point?

The situation with La'el Collins is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen in a NFL draft. The real question is: Do you think any team will pick him at any point in the draft? Keep in mind, it appears that the police will not have a sit down with him until the draft is over. Another point is that there's a good chance he will sit out the 2015 season if selected lower than the second round.

Should we draft Collins? if so, when?

I think we should draft him....but I have no idea which round would make sense with the risk (perceived risk?)

I would personally in the 3rd.

I think the risk is easily justified with a 4th or 5th rounder.

If he's on the board in those rounds, then he's a must pick in my opinion.

If the Saints do not have some insider connections with Baton Rouge police dept then no i would not pick him.If thru his private eye presents a very good solid alibi then with the 230th pick i would consider it.

If he makes it to the fourth round you take him. Move up and bring him back to LA.

You want starters in rounds 1-3, but from the 4th on we're talking about gambles anyway.

As much as I want to believe in his innocence, i just can't see it before the 5th with what little info i have on it. Its just too severe of a situation here. Our 3rds are VALUABLE.

But yeah, we draft an innocent La'el in the 3rd to 7th rounds... holy crap what a steal.

Here's another question:
If we draft him in the 4th or 5th, is the team bound by any league rule on what the contract amount has to be? Can we structure the contract to pay him 1st round money if he makes the team? (I'm assuming this situation should have some clarity before the 53 man roster has to be in).

He is being investigated as a potential suspect in a murder investigation

Why would we want to?

I'm not sure what the rookie wage scale has to say about it though.

I believe the payouts are predetermined so no.

If the Saints draft him, he may be less inclined to sit out and re-enter the draft next year being close to home and all.

Agree. Late round guys seldom pan out as it is. Why not take a chance and select a first-round graded talent with a late pick?

At best you get a potential franchise lineman for a bargain.

At worst his legal troubles prevent him from ever being able to suit up. That would suck but it's not like we haven't already whiffed on a number of 5th-7th rounders (much like the rest of the League).

There is little to lose if this situation arises.

So you dont gamble on a first round quality guy in the 5th bc he might be involved? I think the reward is definitely worth the risk.

Damn right. Take a look at Vontaze Burfict and tell me that pick wasn't an absolute steal.

2 33 55 6 7

there is no 4th round right?

I would say somebody else takes him before He makes it to the 5th round.

I'd rather take a chance on a La'El Collins than draft another Tavon Rooks.
