History of #32 since 2000
Posted on 3/12/17 at 4:38 pm
Posted on 3/12/17 at 4:38 pm
2016 Emmanuel Ogbah DE Oklahoma State
2015 Malcom Brown DT Texas
2014 Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville
2013 Matt Elam S Florida
2012 David Wilson RB Virginia Tech
2011 Derek Sherrod OT Mississippi St.
2010 Patrick Robinson CB Florida State
2009 Evander Hood DT Missouri
2008 Phillip Merling DE Clemson
2007 Anthony Gonzalez WR Ohio State
2006 Mathias Kiwanuka DE Boston College
2005 Logan Mankins G Fresno State
2004 Ben Watson TE Georgia
2003 Tyler Brayton DE Colorado
2002 Patrick Ramsey QB Tulane
2001 Drew Brees QB Purdue
2000 Dennis Northcutt WR Arizona
Only 3 pro-bowlers taken with #32 in the last 17 drafts.
Patrick Ramsey, Anthony Gonzales, Derek Sherrod, and David Wilson were massive busts when you consider that they played in less than a quarter of the games in their rookie contract and were out of the league within a few seasons.
Patrick Robinson, Matt Elam, Tyler Brayton, and Phillip Merling played a decent number of games but were dissapointments that didn't live up to their draft position.
Ogbah, Brown, Hood (when healthy), Kiwanuka, Watson, and Northcutt were all pretty solid players or look to have the makings to being solid players.
Brees is a surefire HOFer and Mankins may get in there as well.
Overall,
12% of picks were great
41% were good
23.5% were bad
23.5% were god awful

32 has some trade value. There will be someone slip and a team will want to move into the first to get them could net you a early to mid second plus other picks.

IMO it should be packaged with the other 1st rounder to assure we get Barnett.
Pretty dumb trying to make a deal without getting the best player out of it. This would resolve that.

Ammunition to trade up and get Thomas.

This would seem to be consistent with this team's MO. When they trade picks on draft day, it's usually to move up to get someone specific they're targeting.

This is a deep defensive draft. I have a feeling there won't be any getting rid of picks this year though I could see packaging 11 and next year's 1st to move up or something

If we trade up I hope we don't pick another Jonathan Sullivan.

Trading up makes no sense. Way too many holes on this defense and there's a good chance Barnett will be there at 11.

How far are we trying to jump, top 5? Iirc Chicago and Tampa swapped 11 and 9 last year and it was for a 4th.
Cleveland traded 8 and a 6th for 15th and a 3rd
Honestly see us packaging that 3rd to move up into the 20s. Wonder if Mike Williams, OJ Howard, or Christian McCaffrey will fall that low.
I don't think many of us will complain if it's something like Barnett, howard/McCaffrey, Jackson, and Riley

I know that's the popular sentiment, but I don't agree at all.
Look at the earlier threads. Pick 32 is a shot in the dark to even be an above average player.
Take the one impact player if u got a shot at him.

This is a stupid excercise
What about all the picks at 31? Or guys drafted after 32.
The history of the 32nd pic literally has no bearing on how good our pick turns out

IMHO
round 1 picks are for getting the star players
round 2 and 3 are for getting your great players
round 4-5 are a little more risky and where you get your developmental and ST players
round 6-7 are where it gets risky and the talent pool is more diluted and its more of where I would go along with saying they are a shot in the dark

Meh. Wasn't trying to be specific about the pick 32. Meant draft picks in general. And draft picks outside the top 10. If we think we have a sure thing player, it's worth losing later, crapshoot picks for...if the trade can be made.

I'll say it again---- Tre White at 32.
Posted on 3/12/17 at 11:32 pm to saintsfan92612
The first round is a crap shoot and around 50% of the guys selected in this draft won't be around in 3 years.
