@LarryHolder: RT @BenVolin: TE Mike Hoomanawanui re-signed with #Saints for 3 years today. I'm told #Patriots contacted Hooman and were interested in bringing him back

The #Bears reached an agreement last night with DT Akiem Hicks on a 2-year deal worth $10M, source said. Another front-7 addition.

So the Pats didn't bring Hicks back.
Interdasting.

I think it's pretty interesting that one of the reasons cited for trading Hicks was locker room/off-field issues, and the Saints' former Director of Player Personnel signs him the very next season.

don't think i've heard that actually. i saw hicks not completely transitioning into the talent that was expected but i don't recall seeing rumblings of locker room issues.

Apologies, not sure what you're trying to ask

I could very well be wrong, but IIRC there were reports of him getting into it with coaches after being benched in the season opener last year.

possible, but i think its still basically staff not believing he's fulfilling his potential than him being a locker room disturbance. Saints knew he had the talent, live up to it or ship out. We got a needed asset last year in return.

Agreed, I have no issues with the trade. Hicks was never going to work as a 4-3 DE, even after losing 20 lbs last offseason.

He did play better in New England than he did here.
You wonder sometimes if the coaching staff sees our players performing better on other teams and thinks "that's a coincidence. Couldn't possibly be our coaching and development."

I got no idea about it personally but its easy for these things to be wake up calls for players especially one in a contract year. Maybe scheme, maybe motivation, maybe combination split thereof.

Maybe it's cuz we are devout fans that follow every move, but it does not reflect well on the club when players do not excel, then leave, and find much greater success elsewhere.
Al Woods- not a game changer but he has played 69 games in the NFL after being cut here. Good enough that TN re-signed him to a 3yr/$1.5mil deal
PRob- no Pro Bowler but had MUCH more success in SD last year rating as the #28 CB by PFF
Malcolm Jenkins- not terrible here but elevated his play in Philly to be All Pro and get a 5yr/$40mil deal

Imagine the melt on here if NE had snuck Hooman back in FA after getting more production out of Hicks than we did, then flipped Hicks successfully for a Comp pick...
