When Byrd is motivated...he's an all-pro no doubt...if the Saints struggle though, some injuries start coming that just can't seem to heal. It's weird how that happens. While I don' think any defense gets "better" when losing a player like Byrd, Byrd leaving Buffalo seems like a blessing in disguise right now as it opened up money for Spikes and Corey Graham..and Corey Graham has been absolutely outstanding for us.

That's a big # for Byrd to live up to and I dont think Ryan is putting him in position to succeed yet...and hope Ryan does it before Byrd decides its break time

I think our LB coverage is a very week spot.

yeah, that has been a real weak spot on the D for a few years in my opinion.

Lofton is okay but he's more of a run thumper.

we need a player like Karlos Dansby. Somebody who can really help out underneath in coverage and that can actually keep up with TE's and RB's in coverage. Somebody who can run out and stop backs out in the flat.

I think Byrd will play better but some of the shite he gets blamed for aint his fault. Now, his tackling hasn't been all that great though.

so far.

Is he playing CB or Safety?

Because CBs are the problem

That defense sucked too. Only thing they had going for them were the turnovers. They gave up yards left and right. Everything that could go right that season did go right.

They were opportunistic and exciting to watch in `09. They earned their money then.

He's had some good plays here and there, and randomly came up with a ball somehow that was just ignored by the refs, but it hasn't been overwhelming.

Hard to say how much of it is him and how much is just the crappy play of his teammates.

no kidding. Did Hoyer attempt a pass over 15 yards?

Byrd was MIA because he wasnt challenged from the air. He did have a bad missed tackle though.

I think the grade is incomplete. Effectiveness of any defense but especially this Saints defenses hinges on the ability to put pressure on a quarterback. That pressure creates not so accurate throws that a player like Byrd feast upon.

With the front four only getting 2 Sacks in 2 games it's clear that offenses are gonna iso Keenan Lewis on one side and bunch 2 or 3 WRs on one side and pick Prob and Corey White apart with quick passes and double moves, while avoiding throwing deep to a roaming Byrd.

Atlanta did it and Cleveland did the same just with with quick passes and bubble screens and deep comebacks that really exposes our 2nd and 3rd corners lack of awareness and physicality before the ball is delivered.
