Why not Josh Jasper?

I always wondered how he never caught on somewhere. Guy was automatic in college.

I don't get why he's being crucified. First miss was a block, second one a defender got his fingers on it just enough to deflect it. We weren't going to recover a second on-side kick anyway.

I thought this as well, but Payton said it was a miss.

And though the first one was blocked, it was his fault for not getting it high enough. For reference, see the Baltimore kicker from last night. Every field goal he attempted hit the top of the net (with the exception of the 61 yard game winner).

Didn't realize it, I went and watched it a few times after the game on the DVR and the ball came off straight and just changed directions and tilt when the ball looked to come in contact with the player's hand. Donno.

Because every kick he tried, including the one that he squeaked through, were total crap. Zero loft on short attempts=easy blocks. A HS kicker would be ashamed of those tries.

I wanted to believe it was blocked because of how bad it was

Maybe you should ask Payton because he seems pretty fricking pissed off at Hartley.

Because he is a completely unreliable kicker who we can't trust to get us a field goal that should be basically automatic for a pro level kicker.

I knighted hard for Hartley, but even I have my limits. The Saints need to move on from him.

I'm over him.

But I don't think it was a mistake to keep him on in previous years.
It's just that now, you really can't justify keeping him.

I'm sure he could hit an extra point and maybe some short range field goals

But there's a reason all 32 teams have a punter and kicker on the team and I'm guessing at some point a team would have utilized the roster space if there was a player who excelled at both.

Yeah, it's hard to vouch for Hartley. There are awesome, reliable kickers everywhere else it seems. His time is up.

I think it's plainly obvious he needs to be cut. We've had this exact thread every other week for the past 2 and a half years. Don't kick field goals, punt, anything. Just don't send that fricker out there anymore

All of this. Gould is easily the best kicker in the league right now.

bills selected dustin hopkins in round 6 last year - on IR currently. Dan carpenter has been money replacing him (27/30 long of 55 and in buffalo which isnt an easy spot to kick). One will be available and potentially a good option. id expect many (most) of the FAs listed to stay put. this is a situation where either a promising young player or good vet will have to hit the market.
