You can't just expect a converted DE to come in his first year at OLB and be great at both things. It just doesn't happen that often.
That type of situation is never worth a high pick. Save the #1 for an immediate impact player that can play he position in which he is most experienced in. Save these laboratory experiments for mid-late round picks - and I'm sure there are plenty of DEs in the draft that will be around late that are more OLB material anyway.
Heck, Galette was undrafted and he was crazy at rushing the passer last year. He could play a true DE position if needed in an emergency, and he'd probably welcome it. So we have some mad depth at rushing the passer, more than most teams can even plan for. The Ford idea was pretty bad.

oh no, I agree completely.
as good as he looked at the Senior Bowl, I was thinking along the same lines.
you like his pass rushing ability but he'd most likely have to be in a rotation with the other OLB's and that isn't what you want to spend your 1st round pick on.
I know a lot of people don't like him on this board but if you were going draft a LB in the 1st round, it would be CJ Moseley. A guy who is capable of being a three down backer.

and ILB isn't the biggest need either.
so that isn't a suggestion.
by the way.

Moseley would be nice for depth. As much as I am biased towards the need for Linebackers, I have to say I'd rather see a CB or WR in the first. Now that Landry might go for cheap (and I'm not a huge 'OMG DRAFT LSU' homer), I can see us picking him up as a value pick. Would be insane if we get him, he pans out next year; 2 years in a row we get 1st round talent at WR for a bargain.

I could see him giving Hawthorne a real run for his money but I agree again, I'd like a CB or a WR instead.
I liked Ogletree last year myself but that was just a pipe dream. He's probably better cut out to be a OLB in a 4-3 anyway which is what he is with the Rams I think.

loose and bounty sittin in a tree....

He may slip to the late 3rd or 4th with that combine performance. Honestly I think he could be a great slot guy but I just don't see him being able to get separation as an outside receiver.

I don't think Clowney will be there at #2

Dude strikes me as a Falcons player. Just a big fat turd turd like all of them.

The only reason that draft would be bad is if Dix, Pryor, Verett, Beckham, and Benjamin are all gone in real life.

Dude will be legit in the nfl.
He'd start right away for us.

I don't know about that, but given that they traded all those picks for Julio, and they are going to do it again?

I'd rather a damn DB. Specifically, safety.
Highly doubt we take DL or OLB in the draft.

No, I agree. I mean depth in competition during training camp. It'd be telling if the season rolled around to see who the odd man out would be.

I honestly think the odd man out would be Hawthorne.
Lofton is good, and I think he'd be even better paired with someone who isn't playing poorly.

This has been the most popular idea. For starters, ATL will around 30 million in cap space before F starts, and alot of holes will get filled there.
Secondly, the Rams and Falcons have a good trade history. While that doesn't mean we won't have to give up a lot, it helps enough to make them open to us more than other teams (unless someone goes all out).

Hes gunna go in the first round and you don't draft someone in the first round with the intention of depth. Id take him as a starter though, but if were going for ILB i have an odd hard on for Shayne Skov (dont think he ll go 1st round) dude is a man.

The more mocks I see the more and more unlikely it seem that Pryor or Dix will fall to us.. I want one of them so bad

I don't know if Ford is the guy for this defense, but you can never, EVER, have too many good pass rushers.
