IMO, Payton is going to slide into the ownership group like Loomis did when he is done coaching. There is literally no reason for him to leave here ever as he has the most control, outside of Belichick, any coach has to do whatever they want in NO.

Big shout out to a couple years ago when Payton and Loomis realized we could build an elite defense through the draft. So many critical defensive pieces are from those 2015-2017 drafts.

Surely that's it, right? Building that defense is great, and I'm sure we hit on one or two other picks as well...

Oh we also rebuilt basically an entire OL that is top 1 or 2 in the league? Grabbed an all pro receiver (best in the league) and an all pro RB/general offensive freak?

Payton/Loomis/Ireland

This team isn't just Drew Brees anymore. I think they, especially the defense, want to prove that while he's out. They may even hit a higher gear when he comes back.

Strangely I’m now thinking Drew now plays another 2/3 years.

It's time the league recognizes that Sean Payton is a straight up elite head coach in the NFL.
Dude is a top five coach, full stop.

He's proving it in the absence of Drew Brees.

Anyone who still doesnt recognize this needs to have a closer look. Or their brain checked.

Unfortunately this isn't true. Our pass pro has been horrendous, outside of Ram and Warford. Our run blocking has been largely elite though. Granted, we've played some pretty good defensive fronts. I find it hard to believe Armstead will have as bad a game as he did last night again, and McCoy should only keep improving, but until we upgrade Peat we'll still be vulnerable to the rush.

I don't see Brees walking away any time soon without an injury (or something else unforeseen). He's still playing at a high level and is neck and neck with Brady for some all time records. And his kids are old enough to enjoy his career which I think matters.

If we win the SuperBowl this year I still don't see him walking away. Maybe if we go back to back he would consider it...but probably not if he's still playing well and the team looks good around him.

I have a feeling that Brees will be back next season.

Sean Payton took over a 3 win team? I can’t even remember any more. As a first year HC he took the Saints to the NFC championship.

Think about that. A franchise with how many previous post season wins? Not too many.

He completely turned around a horrible franchise. He is incredibly organized.

Any ways, he won a Super Bowl in New Orleans. That’s unheard of.

Since joining the Saints in 2006 up until his suspension, 2012ish or whatever it was.?. no other HC had as many wins as him in the entire NFL. Not even the Patriots.

I still think that suspension set Payton back a little. Like it took him a couple of seasons to get things right again.

He’s also an absolute beast against great teams in prime time spots.. My Texan friends have so much respect for Coach Payton. They are constantly telling me how elite he is.
