Fantastic article about one of greatest plays in Saints history

No offense to Gleason, but for me the GOAT moment was Hartley's kick to send us to the superbowl.
The blocked punt is certainly up there though.

I think it'd be hard to argue against the block punt, the Hartley field goal in the NFCCG, or even Tracy Porter's pick-6 to seal the Super Bowl. I do think the most important moment for the city was the blocked punt though.

I have to go with the blocked punt. We were not promised this, it was something truly magical.
Hartley's field goal to send us to the Super Bowl was inevitably going to happen.

I mean, I know we're talking about personal opinion here, but I don't know how you can say that.
Until that ball went through the upright, we were in every bit of danger of being "same old Saints", "there's always next year", etc etc. Tell me you weren't nervous as all hell that they'd get right up to the cusp, then blow it in (until that point) typical Saints fashion. I sure was.
When it went through, it was like someone lifted a giant monkey off of our collective backs. Saints football has never been the same since.

another new story on the play featuring Deloatch.
Didn't know this-
“The funny thing about that play is I wasn’t even supposed to be on the field,” Deloatch said of the legendary play in NFL history. “Nobody knows that. There weren’t 11 men on the field, there were 10 actually and in the very last moment, the special teams coach pushed me out there.”
Deloatch, a 6-foot-2, 214-pound cornerback literally had no idea what to do when he scrambled onto the field. He had been signed by the Saints a week earlier and had just days to prepare for the Monday night game against the Atlanta Falcons.
He had no preparation for the play.
“The position I went in (to play), I’ve never played that position before, I didn’t know what to do. All I heard him say was, ‘Just go rush the kick, just rush the kick,’” Deloatch said. “And when I came off the ball, for some odd reason I remember Steve (Gleason) saying in meetings during the week that if there is an opening he can block the punt. In that play, I just happened to see the ball and I picked it up. That’s the great thing about it. I wasn’t even supposed to be in. I wasn’t even supposed to be out there. It was a man short and they just told me to go out there.”

That first game back in the Dome was the first game my wife watched with me. When she met me it was the off season, and I didn't talk much about football at all. When that play happened, I lost my damn mind, and my wife looked at me like "Who are you?" because I'm normally super laid back.

IMHO that night was the greatest sporting event I've ever attended
and I've covered World Series, Stanley Cup finals, Super Bowls and NBA playoffs
nothing even comes close. If you were in that building that night it something you will never forget

My wife said "It's just a game" to me once. That was after the Seattle play off lost. I literally said "Shut up right now. Don't ever say that to me again." I don't ever talk to my wife like that, and it was an a-hole thing to say, but my mind couldn't deal with it, and I was just trying not to flip out.
