NEW ORLEANS - Former New Orleans Police Department Officer Billy Ceravolo has given a DNA sample to investigators handling the Will Smith death investigation. Ceravolo's lawyer, Tanya Picou Faia, confirmed to WDSU that investigators took a sample Friday. Faia said the sample was Ceravolo's idea, and it was handed over in an attempt to show authorities he never went into Smith's vehicle after the shooting happened. Last week, Hayes' attorney, John Fuller, said his investigators had witnesses who saw Ceravolo going through Smith's SUV and allegedly removing a gun -- anallegation Faia has denied. Faia also said Ceravolo has turned over to investigators the shirt he was wearing the night of April 9. She said the shirt has traces of blood, which she believes are from Smith's wife, Racquel, who was shot in both legs.

Accuse a former NOPD officer of tampering with the crime scene? For shame..... Oh wait. I forgot. This is the NOPD we are talking about. Never mind.

And there are a lot of witnesses for the state that will say the opposite. Fuller has an almost impossible case right now with the videos and the wife shot twice (first) along with 8 shots in the back!!! Remember he doesn't have to and won't tell the truth until court starts,he will lie (message the truth) in front of the cameras to defend his client. Not saying any of this is classy but he is a lawyer.

Why any one expects lawyers representing either side to unveil the truth rather than get their clients a favorable ruling is beyond me.

The court allowed an investigator to say that he heard another woman say that she saw a third person do something?
They allowed that testimony in court?

Because of the murder charge and not manslaughter, Hayse could definitely walk. So it not an impossible case.
They have a video of the shooting? ??????
Do you know for a fact smith's wife was shot first?
1 of those 8 shots was not in the back. Great job just lumping them all together to support your theory

This has nothing to do with this thread but I saw this as your sig pic and had to comment. I don't always agree with Lester Earl but in this instance he is dead on. He is no where near as good as he thinks he is.

that quote was from when he was in high school. had nothing to do with his talent but everything to do with his attitude. The rest of the quote and thread would prove it was taken out of context, but hey, whatever you have to do to BOOM someone!

He is swinging for the fences, that's for sure.
Here is the problem. In trying to create a narrative where his client is "innocent", he must assign guilt elsewhere. He is going to have to destroy someone's reputation in order to achieve that. He clearly has no problem doing this right out in public view and that is why people like Ceravalo and the passengers have all lawyered up. The evidence doesn't support Smith'so guilt without some seriouly committed accomplices, so out of nowhere, we get "anonymous witnesses".
Based on the grand jury, it appears Cannizaro won't let Fuller attempt to incriminate the entire city in the court of public opinion in order to get Hayes off, especially when none of this anonymous and second hand testimony is admissible in court. That's a good thing, but I wonder who can be held legally responsible for this type of defamation assuming Hayes is convicted.
This has turned into a shitshow.

I read often but I rarely post. That being said...
A tweet by Woodberry the night of the tragedy alludes to a female tourist comforting Racquel until paramedics arrived.
LINK
On their arrival, I would imagine she was swiftly taken to UMC. I wonder when Ceravolo would have comforted her.
A picture of the scene the night of the tragedy from WWL shows Ceravolo inside the yellow tape, near an NOPD van (crime scene/evidence/homicide van?). The back door nearest to him is ajar and he is standing between the van and a uniformed officer.
LINK
I think Hayes is more likely than not guilty. But Ceravolo's motives come off as questionable at best, to me. Which friend who he had just dined with was he comforting in that headline picture?
I would imagine it took very little time from his arrival to his acknowledgement and/or realization of the arrestee. Ceravolo was named in a suit for which Hayes was awarded a significant amount of money, within the past five or so years. I doubt he did not immediately recognize Hayes.
And that brings me to my biggest issue with Faia's statement...
"Faia said she believes testing will show the blood in Ceravolo's shirt was that of Racquel Smith, Will Smith's wife. She said that would support Ceravolo's account that he was comforting Racquel Smith while at the crime scene April 9, and that he was not inside Will Smith's SUV as alleged by defense attorneys for Will Smith's accused murderer, Cardell Hayes."
In no way whatsoever, does the blood on his shirt prove whether or not Ceravolo was in the SUV. For her to suggest as much is ludicrous, but I guess that's her job.
Before less passionate and maybe even some more passionate Saints fans badger me, I repeat that I think Hayes is more likely than not guilty. But Ceravolo just seems fishy to me. Hopefully justice will prevail, and maybe the NOPD can get some much needed reform out of this as well.

They have been very careful to pose most of their arguments as second hand hearsay.
I think the only direct shot at anyone was Fuller blasting the NOPD as a whole. Don't think they can sue for defamation with what he said though.
Everything else is he said she said with no actual witnesses taking the stand yet.
