Roby is a decent enough returner but hes nothing outstanding, certainly not on an indispensable Hester, Peterson, or Cribs type level. He hasn't shown any ability as a legit wideout in like 3 years. If he we find 6 receivers who we think can legitimately contribute as wideouts, and we meet need all 6 considering Colston and Moore aren't exactly iron men, then I think we should keep those 6 and just use whatever fast guy we want as a kick returner. Look at ford last year for LSU, or Davis had that return for the chiefs, they weren't traditional returners and stepped in fine

After watching special teams "coverage" frick up over & over again Friday night, I think Roby's a lock to make the team now.

Stills has poor control in positioning his body correctly when making the catch. He has a long way to go. Toons and Tanner are clearly better.

I disagree. I thought he did a good job of getting separation from the defender using his body. He just dropped that long ball which he obviously can't do again. Those two may be better right now but we need his speed and explosiveness

Don't forget that Stills played with the first team offense and was basically the "speed" receiver. Nick Toon is Colston's immediate backup in that they play pretty much the same way and Payton can use Toon the same way he would use Colston.

Point is: they both make the team because they are not the same kind of receiver.

That being said, Toon looked really good in his catches and runs after catch. Stills missed the one long pass, his first as a pro player, so he gets a pass.

So I guess Stills had poor body control on the catch he made on the sidelines, right?

Stills didn't come down with the catch on the deep ball thrown to him but he ran an excellent route & got good separation. He showed his potential. It's all about gaining confidence & continuity in offensive scheme for Stills now. Once he gets both, he'll be fine.
