But perhaps the biggest playmaker of all -- the most exciting weapon on a 2013 squad that's chock-full o' daggers -- is a guy few people outside the 504 area code have even heard of: Joe Morgan.

That's pretty absurd.

I like Joe Morgan, but I'm not totally convinced his ridiculous stats last year will be typical.

With a QB like Brees. Morgan is gonna blow the top off defenses this season. The hype is %100 legit.

See, I don't expect Morgan to break a game wide open, but because he'll be just about the last guy a defense will think about focusing in, he'll absolutely get his chance for big plays. shite just have him go routes all year and he still probably snags around 25-35 balls for anywhere from 400-600 yards

Mindsets can only do so much, though. The truth is, despite all of Ryan's sizzle, his defenses typically fizzle. In nine seasons at three different stops as an NFL coordinator (Oakland, Cleveland and Dallas), Buddy Ryan's kid has helmed just one unit that ranked among the league's top 10 in yards allowed. Even more alarming if you're a Saints fan is that in seven of those nine years, Ryan's defenses finished in the bottom 10. Now he takes over a perennially punchless group that hasn't registered more than 35 sacks since 2006 and isn't all that different personnel-wise from the bunch that was arguably the worst in NFL history.

Typical lazy journalism

Morgan will end up with a few nice games..(hopefully, do not expect him to dominate or even have 10 games with 100+ yards, although if Brees goes insane..who knows)

This is just so true with as many as eight def positions up for grabs this year a switch to 3-4 and a new def coordinator. Good well researched insight I tell ya

Typical lazy article, with the exception of THIS:

quote:

Brees, who's thrown for 33,571 yards over the past seven seasons, or more than all but 21 other quarterbacks have amassed in their entire careers.

This is false. We could have at most 7 guys who are going to be either first time starters or big time contributors in:
Coleman
Hicks
Galette
Wilson
Vaccaro
Lewis
Jenkins

While we may still have Jordan, Bunkley, Smith, Lofton, Hawthorne, Vilma, Harper, Jenkins, Greer, and Robinson, its been argued 100 times before moving to a 34 man scheme will benefit everyone greatly. Especially the emergence of Hicks/Jordan. They are about the prototypical d-line anchors you want for a 34. Not to mention nabbing our monster interior guy in jenkins.

I love how it's a foregone conclusion by most that our defense (even though it's completely different from last year, both in scheme and in many cases personnel) is going to be historically bad again.

What these idiots DON'T get is that the Saints had a chance for the playoffs WITH the worst statistical defense in NFL history !!

Even if we improve to say, a Top 20 defense, or maybe, an OPPORTUNISTIC defense like '09's; with our offense, we will be in the hunt again.....

Add in the Sean Payton factor, the Ryan factor,
the revenge factor, and the new reinforcements factor - on O, D, and ST, and we will make A MOCKERY of all these 'predictions.'

reminds me of the article from the other day that was saying Will Smith will have to play out of his mind for the defense to even keep up with the offense or something fricking stupid like that.
