That video was terrible journalism. It showed a handful of opinions from a handful of guys with practically no soild examples. Kaare Johnson is a bloviating piece of crap with an inferiority complex. He repeats himself so often, he comes to believe that his own opinions MUST be factual.

The article throws out this quote, "That organization is evil", with no follow up as to why it was said. I'm guessing that the Karney situation had extenuating circumstances, but there was no follow up questioning about that either.

It had the look of a hit piece to me.

Why in the hell do ya'll still watch ESPN? You know by now what they're going to do on anything regarding the Saints. Why torture yourselves?

I don't wanna sound like a Payton apologist, but this report is absurd.

Just really weird timing for something Sean Payton related. Was there anything out there about someone that is currently involved in sports? How about a piece on the NFL referee situation?

Basically espn relied on anonymous spurned reporters for this story & the 3rd shift mail room clerk for evidence.

I bet one of the anonymous reports came from either Brian Walsh or Kenny Wilkerson.

I love how they use old quotes from people who did not want to comment. Perhaps they changed their opinion or stance ESPN?

Also, a moot point now that WIST is going under, but Kaare Johnson didn't do them any favors. I have to wonder when this was recorded though because if recent, I can't believe he would still be so bold. I could kind of see where he was coming from if this had been at the height of the scandal. Now, it's just foolish.

The Loomis thing fell through so they had to move to the next target knowing he could't answer back. Also extremely coincidentally that they couldn't find anyone from NO to respond to the piece. Wouldn't want anyone to bring up OTL's Loomis fail.

The way they described it belies it as hyperbole. Who makes a "threatening phone call" asking "why we were trying to dig up information?". They didn't say there was a threat or what the threat was...only that the call was "threatening" and that someone was asking questions as to their intent. Perhaps someone did call and maybe they were even aggravated, but an "aggravated" phone just isn't as salacious.

Oh I could totally buy this being a hyperbole. I wondered where the threat came in when I first watched it too. But to say they completely made it up is highly unlikely. I mean, even the bounty stuff isn't completely made up. It's all a hyperbole/taken out of proportion.

Someone probably did call and ask why ESPN was calling anyone and everyone who works and did work for the Saints looking for dirt. It was no secret that OTL posted up in NOLA looking high ans low for any dirt whether it was there or not.

Why didn't they ask Barr about the wire tap questions while he was on air?

Profootballtalk

Profootballtalk ripped the OTL for not interviewing Larry Holder and Bill Parcells.

The whole thing is suspicious. The last thing I expected when I turned on the tv at 8:05 this morning was a 30 minute piece on Sean Payton being arrogant and difficult to deal with. How in the world was this newsworthy? So many other things they could've "investigated".

Barr/ESPN OTL should be given the GG treatment on this board. Just ignore and move on.

I've met the guy, my folks have met the guy, we all have pictures with him, see him in Watercolor with his kids, and he's never been anything but polite.

When I saw this piece I decided that's it for ESPN.

I am completely done. ABC/ESPN can all suck it. Done. Forever.

I just found it funny that they had players that were scorned by their release. I love Joe Horn but it was no secret he was pissed with Payton. Same for Charles Grant. And they use a piece from Mike Karney. I mean come on.

The high majority of coaches and players on the Saints adore Payton. He treats them well and understands family is important. Why didnt they ask Fugita or Brees or Colston or Evans or Gleason or even the actual local media who cover the saints like Holder and Triplet and Varney?

The answer is he would NOT have gotten the story he wanted. This guy chose 2 players that were released and a radio talk show guy he just wants to stir the pot for his dying radio station. This was WWF style journalis.
