Still a little too high, but it's not absurd.
Not sure how 1.1 is too high but OK....

He switched from a 3-4 middle which he played his whole time with Baltimore to a 4-3 middle.
What? Pretty sure Miami played a 3-4 as well. I thought Wheeler and Ellerbee were their ILBs?

The 1.1 isn't bad. The 4.1 is though...I guess we just use him this year and then dump him. Or maybe he becomes a solid starter and we keep him at 4.1 next year. The contract looks like a "prove it" deal. If we actually get good production from Ellerbe...then this trade is one of the biggest steals ever.

I think the structure of the deal gives us an out if he does not play as expected but on the other hand it also gives him an incentive to kick arse this year to make sure that he gets his 4.1 next year.

I agree. The Saints can't lose on this deal. Hopefully he earns his 4.1 next year. 4.1 isn't bad for a solid starting ILB.

Nope, looked it up earlier before I made the post. Wheeler played outside, Ellerbe played middle.

Ian Rapoport has twatted that the salary for this year is:
$4.9 Mil ($1.1 base, $1.5 signing, $2.1 roster bonus)
has it at $5.2 average over next two years
ETA: Just saw your post, Chadzilla. Nothing to see here. Carry on

So is that 1.5m for completing the trade guaranteed and the rest if he makes the roster and is not cut?
If so thats just fine.

He's guaranteed the 1.5 signing bonus & the 2.1 roster bonuses. It's the only way that we could only pay him 1.1 for his base salary. I think there's a close to 0% chance that he gets cut this year. He'll get his full 4.9 this year...next year is a little different story.

no details yet. I sure as shite hope so. I wonder if the signing and roster bonuses are due by August. I doubt it though. Signing bonus is just that: a bonus upon signing the contract. Tells met that he is getting 2.6 at the least.

They still don't have full details but we are projected at $2.9m under before Spiller.
So any other moves aside from vet minimum players will require another move.
And we still have to clear cap for draft picks and the regular season roster adjustments.

Yall are forgetting we can designate one of our cuts as a June 1st cut and free up cap space. Right now the numbers that are flying around are as if no one was designated as the June 1st cut.

We couldn't have pushed the roster bonus to after camp at least?
