He doesn't have to beat out the other safeties. He has to beat out one of the corners for that 9th or 10th DB spot. That will be hard but not impossible.

Last year we kept 5(or was it even 6) safeties on our initial 53 and had at least 5 thoughout the year.

Not to be racist, but...

And that's all I'll say.

Well, let's calm down, take a deep breath, and look at what we did.
Last year was considered an excellent draft, because everyone made the team and we picked up a couple starter-quality players (Vaccaro, Jenkins, Stills, Armstead).

Wasn't as many spots open this year, and yet we still picked up players who should make the team. We got a legit speed guy who can play, a big corner, and a couple of linebackers with real long-term potential. I don't get the Sunseri pick, but that's because we are deep at safety already.

Disagree. Just 3 years ago we were keeping like 2 or 3 extra safeties for special teams alone. Last year we played with 3 safeties on the field like 70% of the time on defense. So a guy like Rafael Bush is taking on a bigger role there, where he was once saw as a special teams guys. We need other guys like Sunseri who can play special teams, and also fill in when these guys need a breather.

It could allow us to keep an extra WR or RB that isnt strictly a special team player(like Roby was at WR).

That's a great point too. It could also free us up from feeling we NEED to bring in 6 WRs or 5 HBs.

I'm saying though... at least it was sunseri and not the golden boy McCarron

yeah, and all the black fellas for Alabama had been picked by then too.

shocker.

Solid points

More depth at DB(ecspecially) in this league never hurts.

I'll say this. There were certain positions that would have been "off limits" or trade back guys if they fell to us in the first 3 rounds(and if you look at our history we move around to make need and BPA fit if it doesn't where we are).

From the 4th round on almost all positions are back on the board and you are looking for guys with high upside or guys that fell that are on your 2nd-3rd round board.

we've had some decent special teams/db guys over the years. gleason, bush, bellamy, giordano, groce, craft, deloatch, etc

could find a niche as one of those guys

First time since like...2012.

We had no 1st or 2nd round pick and the took a DT from Canada in the 3rd. Yeah, hicks worked out, but there wasn't a ton of excitement from that draft.

do people feel the need to immediately say this to any sort of criticism? its to the point of overkill. the FO isnt flawless. its as if people are terrified to say something negative.

I agree.
It's a discussion board, but we can't talk about the picks we like or dislike...
