If anyone thinks the Saints draft a QB anywhere near the top 2 rounds is crazy. As much as this team says they draft for value and not need is definitely not entirely true. You can hear in the post season press conference Payton says something along the lines of looking closely each year with the talent pool to know wether your looking to draft value vs need. If I had to say, a future QB is of need but not in the first few rounds unless the one player they really like at the position is there. The only way then I see them taking a QB over another top prospect they have their eye on is to trade back up into the top rounds and get the passer....i.e. Mark Ingram.

To draft a successor now for 4 yrs from now is pissing away the greatest rookie qb asset which is their rookie contract of 4 yrs of cheap arse deal

there's no reason to draft a successor early when brees has a good 4-5 years remaining. team has other areas of concern early.. plus they actually are very high on that tulane qb for some reason..

Yep. Although 2nd contract probably wouldn't be anything egregious due to not playing during rookie deal.

I just hope CSP is still around to develop the next guy.

Id actually rather McCarron

Had the benefit of a great line over the last few years (well, at least the SEC refs never called them for holding). I don't see McCarron as a long term starter- in fact, he may make have a career in the NFL, but strictly as a backup.

Murray would actually be a pretty good fit in Payton's offense. If he is there in the 4th-6th rounds, I would hope they consider him.

I think the only way we should draft a qb is if there is a guy that fell much further than he should and could be trade bait down the road

I've always kind of broke McCarron's balls on the MSB using this exact line.

but to be fair, I think he's gotten better each year.

the worst O-lineman who was guilty of holding was Barrett Jones. He relied more on his technique because he wasn't all that powerful of a blocker.

Eta meant Murray in 4th or 5th if available. On mobile. Any 1 or. 2 round QB will kill the salary cap.

We probably shouldn't draft a QB in this first two rounds, but this isn't the reason.

Absolutely not. While I do feel that Aaron Murray could be an elite pro if he fully recovers, no way should we be going QB as early as the 2nd round.

Payton loves some UDFA. Look at what he did with Romo in Dallas.

I've seen mock drafts that have him lasting to the 4th round. His lack of arm strength is going to hurt him in the draft. Couple that with the ACL tear, if we can get him in the 4th, or possibly trade back into the 3rd to get him I think it would be a steal. He'd be a good candidate to sit under Brees for awhile. But anything higher than a low 3rd, high 4th, I wouldn't take him.

Gil Brandt loves him some Murray

I'm not sure about all the hate on this guy, but maybe that's to be expected on an LSU board. I personally only know what I am reading, and he is getting some positive praise by writers. Dallas paper even is suggesting Cowboys draft him with their 2nd rounder. I can care less one way or the other; I mainly want us to get our future on this team now. It's too critical of a position to be taking chances at this point in Drew's career. While Drew may play another 4-5yrs, there is definitely no guarantee in that. I believe we saw a drop in his arm strength this season; he has been underthrowing more often than in the past. This is not a dig at him, because I still think he's a top 5 QB in the league; however, it's a fact that with age the human body weakens and so shall a football player's abilities.

I think it could be smart to start training him early. The packers did that with Rodgers and Farve and the moment Farve left Rodgers came in and tore it up. There wasnt much of a rebuilding process i think thats a good idea

Agreed. I actually didn't realize Brees was going to be 35 going into next season. Could he play to 40? Possibly but it's hardly a given. Assuming the player is worthy of the draft position he's selected I wouldn't be opposed to getting a QB as early as the 2nd round.
