I'm completely ignorant on what Payton values when game planning an offense, other than himself and Drew. But I can't help but wonder. A stat that JUMPS out at me and should be paid attention to is this: the Saints are 2-3 this year when they attempt 20 or less rushes in a game....2-3..which means that they are undefeated when rushing 20+ times a game. How in the world do you not make damn sure you run the frigging ball 20+ times a game?!?? This seems like a no brainer to me, does Payton not see these stats? Does he not put any value in them?

One of the biggest issues is that there is no one on this team that can check Payton's lunacy. Pete "Deer in Headlights" Carmicheal just stands there with his clipboard and goofy grin.

Peyton hates running the football. He only likes to hand it off to his trick toy RBs about 10x a game and only hands it off to his real RBs 2-3xs a game unless they averaging 10 yds a carry.

Mad Scientist and a River Boat Gambler all rolled into one. If you get Payton rattled, the run game goes out the window.

well, let's be honest... its not like they were really having any success with the run vs. that DL... they whooped our OL's arse the entire game.... Running the ball just to say you ran it doesn't necessarily mean much...

Honestly he doesn’t even run the ball then. Murray had a few nice starts after kamara came back where he was breaking off big runs then Payton would shelve him.

5.6yds a carry is pretty successful I'd say

He needs a lesson in clock management more than analytics, IMO.

That 50+ seconds he wasted before the last drive could have been the TD that won the game in regulation. Don't get it.

He needs to spend some quality time with the butcher at Whole Foods. He might learn a few things.

I’ve been saying this. Freaking amazing how he refuses to run.

Running the ball like that is predicated on playing with a lead. If not for the missed FG and two Brees turnovers, which could’ve led to points, you would’ve saw more of a ground game

Actually, the advanced analytics (not wins and losses) show that running the ball has little impact on your offensive output. Take for example, the titans henry ran for 180 something yards this weekend, the titans scored 14 points on offense.
Its amazing yall dont realize you run more when you are leading, therefore you have a better record when you run more. If we knew we would legit have a better chance of winning by running the ball 25 times, the first 25 plays of the game would be handoffs

Every talking head and their mothers are saying we should have run the ball more. You're just arguing for the sake of arguing

Was coming in here to say the same thing. The "x-x record when running y times" is a very flawed stat.

Warren Sharp, who runs a predictive analytics site and is a consultant for a few NFL teams, has commented before that in general a lot teams over commit to the run and do not throw the ball enough. I'm not saying this can be applied to the Saints, because with all analytic arguments, it is situational based. My point is just that if you want to refer to the analytics community on running the ball, the new argument is that passing is more effective in general.

I agree with mostly everyone here. I have been saying the same thing for years. This is one of the reason I enjoyed the Saints when Teddy B was starting. Payton calls a much better and balance offensive game plan.

It appears that Brees never audibles from a pass play call.

That interception was just dumb and we should have been running the ball on that play as well as when he fumbled.

Payton royally fricked up yesterday, but this stat is probably misleading. If we are winning late in any game that probably adds like 10 carries to the stats. We should definitely run more, and should have yesterday, but stats like this can be deceiving.
