I honestly would trade up for this kid. The film shows that he's worth it. he could be a force with Cam and Sheldon on the DLine. What have people said about the Saints? We need to pressure the QB and Derek can be just that. Mickey Loomis, if you're reading this, draft him.

If you dont, looks like this will be your last year in NOLA...

Typical saints. Win meaningless games and then decide to trade up.

He seems to be this boards favorite.

I like him over everyone else.

Garret looks to be a lock to be a stud but he stayed injured.

Allen scares me a bit b/c you never know what Bama player was a product of the greatness surrounding him. Although he definitely looked the part.

Barnett looks like a Mr Everything defensive lineman. Which we need.

In the early going here he does look like he could possibly be available at #11. For value and need he might be optimal. Let's see who they sign in free agency and how the Combine shakes out before setting your sights to strongly tho.

If not him, Zach Cunningham is absolute beast at Linebacker. Wouldn't mind him.

I am going to hope as I imagine the Saints will to that a minimum of 3 QB's get picked before us which gives us a chance to grab a top DE.

Would absolutely love Barnett and apparently the rest of the board does as well, but I just don't think he will be there when we pick.

the fact that he's become such a popular pick on this board suggest to me that he's becoming popular on every board, which suggests to me that he's becoming the trendy pick and won't be around at 11... but one can hope. Maybe part of the reason his bowl performance stood out so much was that so many of the stars elected not to play (I still find Peppers' last minute scratch highly suspicious)

Barnett won't be there.

I would much rather the Saints just sign a DE that can come in right away and then draft some LBs like Foster.

Although, if the Saints just have to draft Barnett and have to trade up then this is one instance where I wouldn't be mad. The guy is going to be an All-Pro.

Allen will go first so Barnett will still be available at #11 and I'll be disappointed of the Saints pass on him.

With the Saints having limited draft picks over the last few years from the bounty saga & trading up previously, normally I would be against trading up again but if Barnett happens to still be there around picks 7-8, you have to go him. One, he is an immediate impact player at a position of need. He will produce from day one. I will take your All Pro prediction a step further. Barnett is Hall of Fame material & here's why. Scouting departments use the 5 characteristics, originally started by Cowboys scouting guru Gil Brandt, to rank players at their various positions. Internally, scouting departments use these rankings to predict the potential ceiling for players. Players who score the highest on all 5 characters receive potential Hall of Fame grades. Someone receiving such a high grade is rare though. These scores never get released to the public but if you read anonymous scouting statements on certain players, it's there if you read between the lines. Here's an example using Gil Brandt's thoughts on Leonard Fournette.

quote:

Fournette "would be the first guy picked in the (NFL) draft if you just say, 'Who is the best player?'" NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt told The New York Times. "... He's ready to play."

quote:

Still, Brandt compared Fournette to two of the most dominant rushers of their times: Adrian Peterson and Herschel Walker.

LINK

Now here are the characteristics that Brandt came up with that scouting departments still use today to grade players.

quote:

There were five characteristics that were common to every position: 1) character, 2) mental alertness, 3) quickness, agility and balance, 4) strength and explosion and 5) competitiveness and aggressiveness. Then we had to find out position specifics, which are obviously a lot different for a wide receiver than they are for an offensive lineman, and we weighted those characteristics. So say you are a defensive lineman and you get a 5 in strength and explosion and a 5 in quickness, that’s 10; and I’m a quarterback, and I get an 8 in mental alertness and a 1 in strength and explosion, that’s only 9 points. But because of the weighting of the most dominant characteristics for success at the position, which would be mental alertness for a quarterback, I would be a better player than you.

LINK

Barnett grades out extremely high on all 5 characteristics. This is why I feel he has Hall of Fame potential. Most of these characteristics can be observed on tape but character has be investigated by reaching out to family, friends, coaches & teachers. I posted in another thread about Barnett’s leadership skills which falls under character. That's something you don't pick up on tape but you do get it from talking to teammates & coaches.
