PFF Saints top performers week 3

TOP 5 GRADES:
CB Ken Crawley, 85.2 overall grade
WR Michael Thomas, 83.8 overall grade
CB P.J. Williams, 82.0 overall grade
QB Drew Brees, 81.0 overall grade
G Larry Warford 80.8 overall grade

Probably not, but still interesting to see that two of our CBs were our highest graded players.

Our top graded player was fricking Ken Crawley?
And he was benched for Harris to start the season?

God, frick Dennis Allen.
The dude needs to just go.

They did play well, but it helped immensely not having Olsen in the game and having KB go out early.

The rest of their receivers are trash.

To be brutally honest, Cam missed some easy throws.

Some right off the top of my head; Crawley getting beat on a go-route and a slant-and-go. Cam overthrew them both times, both would have been TDs or a massive gain.

I liked seeing the interceptions though.

The decision to play Harris over Crawley in MN cost us that game.

Crawley is actually good can't believe he was inactive for Harris. Yeah Harris plays special teams and he doesn't but crawley has speed and size.
Only complaint is the double moves

Cam's MO is overthrows. He overthrows fricking 6'6" Benjamin. But yeah that also helped the corners look better.

That said PJ and Crawley were on top of their guys way more often than not, except when Allen went to his shite zones again (seriously, all zone on their lone TD drive; mostly man the rest of the day and we shut them down).

Hell Moore was active and rode the bench that game. It was complete bullshite and Allen trying to prove some stupid point but cost us the game instead.

That's the only thing I can reckon with these zones.

Allen likes zone coverage more, and he thinks he can prove that (with time) our DB's will adjust.
But we've been drafting guys that do man coverage.
That's their strength.

I agree with this. They played more man to man in preseason.

First two games were embarrassing. That said Carolina was depleted on O so we will see.

Problem is he's been trying for 3 years now (since he came in to run the secondary in 2015).

The zones don't work. Man does. Not always but it works better and way more often than the zones.

Only time they played a ton of zone in preseason was against the Browns, and that's the only time the D looked bad.

I was freaking out because that's been THE issue the last two years before this one, but thought he may go away from it because of the rest of the preseason and how well man worked.

But nope. Played mostly zone against Minny, and we sucked playing zone against an awful Carolina offense.

The Pats we played more man, but Bill knew what the frick he was doing to confuse and beat us. Guys were lost covering FBs and HBs flexed out. Didn't help he was using LBs to try to cover in space.

Issue with the NE game was we could not get pressure

You can run man when you're able to generate pressure on the QB. Playing strictly man-to-man leaves you open to those double move routes that Crawley was beaten on a couple times yesterday, but because Cam was either moving around or hurrying his throw, he missed his WR.

These corners have talent. They are just inexperienced. Williams, Lattimore, Crawley, Moore and Breaux (when he returns) is a solid top 5. They just need playing time and they need to play man to man. Marcus Williams showed a lot yesterday as well, which helps the corners. Again, talented but inexperienced.
