The Sideline View's Adam Caplan expects the Browns to pursue one of Chase Daniel, Brian Hoyer and Matt Moore in free agency.
The Browns are serious about putting heat on 29-year-old sophomore Brandon Weeden, and any of Daniel, Hoyer or Moore would have a legit shot at beating him out in camp. The only player with any real experience, Moore's odds would obviously be the strongest, but Daniel's reputation has steadily grown as he's backed up Drew Brees. Hoyer is a restricted free agent, but shouldn't draw an imposing tender.

Hmmmm?

I would hate to see him go but if he gets the chance to start more power to him.

I like the guy - he has decent chemestry witht he team, however if it gives him a shot to be a starter - I wish him the absolute best. ive been a chase fan since Mizzou.

This is proof positive that the QB FA this year sucks. A backup QB should possess the skill set to come in and keep the ship relatively on course. I don't have the confidence that's possible with Daniel.

If he goes, no great loss. My guess is they go after Moore due to his starting experience and Daniel will be back.

Does any offseason ever really have a strong QB FA pool?

That's true for a starter type QB; there's usually a number of quality backup guys available. Also, there's always a few "can't miss" prospects in the draft, which doesn't appear to be the case this year.

Whoever the GM is for the Browns needs to find a new job

Matt Moore has been pretty decent.

the thing is - noone has a true idea of what Chase can do until he is given a chance. he may be a decent QB, but until he is given a chance to be a reg starter - who really knows.

...with Daniel, Hoyer, and Moore? It sounds a lot more like they are doing the exact opposite...giving Weeden plenty of room to develop without having to look over his shoulder.

The scariest part for Browns fans is that this report is exactly accurate...that they want to challenge Weeden, and think this is the group to best do that.

I couldn't think of a group of less threatening backups.

Wasn't Daniels nickname "stats" because he kept all stats of players during games?
If he goes who will keep track?

If the saints lose Chase I wouldn't mind going after Colt McCoy. He was solid in college, and never had any talent in the NFL.
