New Orleans Saints

The Skinny: The Saints were very active and landed a starting guard in Larry Warford from the Lions, a starting middle linebacker in A.J. Klein from the Panthers and re-signed defensive tackle Nick Fairley. Then, after signing away receiver Ted Ginn Jr. from the Panthers, they shipped receiver Brandin Cooks to the New England Patriots for a first-round pick. They will almost certainly use both of their first-round picks on defense. It was a good first few days for the Saints.

Grade: A. This grade goes up because they got an extra first-round pick to play with in the draft.

I agree with them. It's a really nice, smart offseason so far. They did well.

More importantly, I don't see any colossal frickups or contracts that can really haunt them.

Id probably give them a B right now but if they can draft players who immediately are successful, I would give them an A.

I would grade it so far a b or b- only because the fruit of the Cooks trade has yet to be picked.

As the smoke clears and the trade does not look as bad based on what other teams offered or didn't I agree with that.

They get a B+ from me. There is still a giant hole at CB they haven't addressed

Agreed it's a b for me right now. I think they need to bargain bin and dumpster dive on a prove it corner like claiborne. I'll give them an a if we can do that.

I do like the approach of the last few years though. Depth and quality talent, not splash signings. Guys with upside but also approaching the draft to get you high end talent.

Free agents:
Hill
Hooman
Fleener
Kelemete
Robertson
Stupar
Fairley
Klein
Ginn
Warford

Truthfully, the only real holes are: DE, Cb, and S.

Upgradable positions are:
WR, LB, TE, RT, and RB

I'll give them a B- only because I think they could have done better on the Cooks trade. Great job on the other F.A. signings and if they can turn the 32nd pick to Gold I would gladly change to an A+.

The expert gives an A and our board gives a B only because of the butt-chaffing from the Cooks trade. The Cooks trade was a very good move guys. Dude was too short and cost too much. He didn't sound like he wanted to be here anyway.
Move forward - it's done.

It was a good trade.

This draft is extremely deep and we can get bona fide starters for 32 and the 3rd we received.

The "Expert" gave an A on the overall moves. Most opinion away from here gives the better end of the trade to New England. I believe Cooks needed to go
also. We pulled the trigger too fast that is obvious to most and that includes the "Experts". If you want to compete with the big boys you either choose to "shite with the big dogs or you piss with the puppies". Why do you think the Patriots jumped at this deal?

most people give the whole FA thus far a B because we still have big question marks at CB and FS

I'd give our 5 moves so far an A- overall. I'm not saying all the guys will pan out...I'm just basing this on the money we spent & the positions of needs they filled.

Fairley - A+
Warford - A+
Ginn - A+
Klein - B-. He may end up panning out, but I think they overpayed a little.
Cooks trade - A-. I like the trade more than most people on here. I'd give it an A+ if we didn't have to give up our 4th rounder. I wish we could've given up our 6th or 7th instead.

Because they have a bunch of picks & Belichick has a mancrush on Cooks.
