Jim Henderson's reaction is pure gold.
The River City Relay and the subsequent PAT miss perfectly encapsulated pre2009 Saints history.

I was watching that game on TV. The announcers said "Now all they have to do is make the extra point to keep their playoff hopes alive." I said, "Yeah, but it's the Saints". I just knew it was coming.
Every other team in the NFL would have just let them run out the clock and never gotten the ball back. Or been tackled inbounds or thrown an incomplete Hail Mary to end the game. Only the Aints of old would pull off a Stanford Band play and then miss the extra point. Instead of sucking, they found creative ways to lose.
I think the Cowboys somehow picked up our old gris-gris. They do things like ice their own kicker, bobble the hold in a playoff game, or get lucky with the opposing kicker missing a chip shot and then get burned for an 80-yard touchdown in overtime.

Awful memory. Just finished a basketball game when my dad turned on the radio. Every team mentioned first won, except the Saints. And of course the radio guy had to drop the quote "man how did they blow this one!"

Remember watching this on TV...house was clearing, everyone rushed back in to watch the miss... Comedic gold and utter sadness.

A play that defined the franchise

I was at a friend's house and we literally sat their in silence for about 10 minutes. No one said a word. Just utter dejection.

It's the exact moment I became emotionally detached from the Saints.

It was like our "bartman / Cubs" moment
