You get a proven corner instead of a wasted pick.

Because if the saints have proven anything, it's that trades and FA signings are a sure thing.

What point are you trying to make? We've also drafted plenty of busts.

They have had less luck with 1st round picks.

How's their "luck" been with free agent acquisitions? Your point is not valid.

Completely agree. Saying we should trade the pick because of previously poor decisions is dumb.

My point is nothing is guaranteed, especially a proven veteran. I'll be happy either way, but lets not pretend anyone knows how either decision will pan out.

Right. We need to figure out what we value more. Personally I like Butler but I also liked Byrd. Never know, but I think Butler could produce more now than someone like Tre White type draft pick there, assuming we go DE @ 11.

Yeah but a 32nd pick that's a bust would hell of a lot cheaper than if Butler was a bust.

Sure, but what is more important right now? Instant help on defense or potential help immediately / future hello on defense? I want immediate help while Brees is still Brees. If say Butler fills that need more than a draft pick but I'm no scout.

The original point is that you can't say we suck at drafting so must do FA deal because we also suck at FA deals

The chances of Butler being a solid starting corner for us in 2017 are exponentially higher than the #32 pick.

We have Brees now. No guarantees after that. It's simple. Build through the draft when Brees is gone. Gonna take some time for us to be good enough again either way.

Yes, and it has been proven time and again, a team can go from average to the Super Bowl in one year.

Butler/Byrd. Butler/Byrd. Butler/Byrd.Blah blah blah.

What about Butler/McKenzie. Or Butler/Greer. Or Butler/Lewis before the hip.

Byrd had to have back surgery the offseason we signed him. Then he fricked up his knee.

Butler has no injury history in the nfl like that. It's nowhere near the same situation as Byrd. That stupid arse shite needs to die.

And this isn't directed at one person. I keep seeing this shite over and over and it isn't nearly the same situation.

The closest comparison would be Greer or McKenzie, both highly rated corners before coming here.

If we got Butler for 42 I would cream myself.

Even for 32 I'd still be happy with it. But for 42? I'd love that.

I guess I would be happy with giving up 32 for him.

I do feel like a lot of people in that since we got the pick the potential of players that might be there has me intrigued so I get that.

But at the same time I don't see a rookie corner coming in and having the same impact, if he ever develops. We NEED a legit starter now.

If it's less than 32 (unless things get crazy with multiple high picks outside the first) it'll be a pure win.
