Yes, I know another thread was asking on this, but the question was never answered (it veered off into why Snead is better than Toon).

I'm not challenging that Coleman should make the team, just asking what is actually going on with him.

The guy is big, and his college highlight film looks good; last season we were all surprised he wasn't drafted. "A steal" as an undrafted free agent... but then he gets dumped to the practice squad.

So this season, it's being acknowledged that he is the 3rd WR; why? Size and potential? I mean, he hasn't looked bad, but he also hasn't stood out, to where I would say he's a seamless transition from Colston. Or, has he, in practice?

I'm just intrigued by this guy. Is he really expected to be good? And please, let's stay on Coleman, and not go into the other WRs on the roster.

He's been very good in practice I think, at least from some of what I've read.

Because who else do we have?Snead has done well in practice but the only gameplay he has has been in the 4th quarter.

His camp has been awesome.

He just needs more playing time.

He's 6'6" with great speed for his size and obviously has shown he will put in the time and effort to improve his hands and route running. He's still young and improving and it's only his second training camp.

He's better so far than those who would replace him as reported by those watching practice and interviewing players and coaches.

Who has called him a "lock" BTW?

There is a saying in sports. When you are small, you have to prove everyday that you CAN play. When you are big, you have to prove everyday that you CAN'T play.

I just don't see Colston playing a full season. As great of a player he's been, he's on the backend of his career with nagging injuries throughout camp so far. He's not going to suddenly get healthy when the season begins.

He needs to put together all those glowing practice reports. I haven't seen this guy do anything since he came to the Saints last year. He might look good in practice but he certainly doesn't in game time situations which is what matters. Thing is I don't think they really have a lot of WRs fully separating themselves from him so they might just go on potential here. When you look at him you say how the hell was this guy not drafted? Then you watch preseason and can see why he wasn't drafted. If he has potential he needs to put it together. He has nice size but he doesn't appear to know how to use it as an advantage. His hands are oddly bad for someone so huge too.

Typically you can expect a guy to translate to the field if he's looking good in practice even as a rookie. This is year 2 for him and so far he hasn't shown much. Sometimes you get guys who look great in practice but can never translate it to the field. That's how you end up with starters who you wonder how they even made it into the NFL.

Lucky for him he might end up on the roster just by potential and the fact nobody is exactly setting the world on fire around him. This is going to be a mediocre WR group even with Brees tossing the ball around. Cooks going to be a stud but I can't say I'm very confident in anybody else on the roster right now. Colston might be done. I do hope Snead turns into a stud too. This board went full retard on Coleman and hyped him up. So far he hasn't shown much of anything and he's definitely not a lock for the roster.

You're saying things as if he's been on the field an entire season. He's been in a game and a half of preseason and only had a handful of targets. Give him time. There's a reason he's been running with the first team.

I'm saying he needs to start showing something if he wants to make the team. He doesn't have the luxury of time on his side but he might make the team by default because it's not like the other guys around him are amazing either.
