Patriots wanted a second round pick. We said no. Think time made the Saints happy with the picks we have. Looks like if it happens it'll be a package of picks but not higher than a third.

Thanks Black N Gold. I was told it was nothing less than a done deal for months now and I was very surprised it hasn't happened by now, according to my source

It seems silly for the Patriots to consider dumping him when they are already right there, already have a plethora of young talent, and GOAT Tawmmy Brady probably only has 2 years left of elite QB'dom.

Saints wouldn't even give up a 2nd?

If that's true. I'm proud of the FO. I thought for sure they were dishing Collins and jones for 3rd round picks and we'd be the one to throw them a first for butler

That's what I was told. From other reports, it sounds accurate.

Jones was traded for a 2nd and former 1st round OG.

well right there you answered "why"

they are already right there, already have a plethora of young talent, and GOAT Tawmmy Brady

so why pay a guy a big contract when you can trade him and get draft picks for him?

can he help them, certainly yes, can they do just fine without him, again, certainly yes they will.

either way, they are still fine with it, they get him on a cheap contract this year and he leaves next year and the patriots saved money not extending him.

on Friday the saints phone might even ring from NE willing to do it for just a 3rd

They'll also get a cheap guy who was voted an all pro in their system to pair with another very good cb and maybe a 3rd rd compensatory pick next year if he leaves. Year of a very productive corner on the cheap towards the end of BB and TB career may be more valuable.

I think someone mentioned the FA the signed will most likely offset that and they wont get a compensatory for him next year if he leaves.

something about the comings and goings of players equaling out value

I'd still love to have him but if it happens it's likely a draft day thing and the Pats must LOVE someone.

That would get measured in the year he leaves and be the factors for a 2019 potential pick.
