LarryHolder: Just asked Bill Polian about the #Saints draft strategy and seems pretty confident NO will trade up if key defenders come off the board.

Not sure how I feel about this.

As long as we don't give away our second first, I'm fine. But giving up both to move up to a top 5 spot say would be radical.

That's what I'm afraid of. These guys just don't have patience...those extra picks are burning a hole in their pockets.

If they pull another Sullivan type deal, we're screwed.

Is this quote right?
If key defenders have come off the board why move up?

If there is a guy they think is a game changer and worth the cost of course they pull the trigger.

If true I would hope it would be for either Beasley or Fowler.

Totally agree. This draft lacks ,to me, top half studs. Has more talent in the middle, I feel that 25-100 is very solid

Did we add Bill Polian to our staff? No...

Than I'm not worried about his opinion about what we might do.

I'm reading it that as defensive guys come off the board the more likely the team will trade up to grab one of the remaining they like.

This draft is way too deep to draft up IMO

I suppose.

But in what year of the draft did not key def and off not come off the board early?

I think he means if ALL the key defenders start getting picked. While sure there will always be key defenders going high; however, if there's a run and only one is left at the 9-10 spot, then they will move up to not miss out on grabbing him.

My problem with this is that if the key defenders are flying off the board like coke at a frat party, then that means a top WR will fall to us. This also is a position of need. Let's not trade up unless none of the talent will be there, not just the "key defenders"

This regime has never hesitated to move up and take a guy they want, for better or worse.

Rarely have we ever moved back in early rounds (if at all).

I would expect it.

Brett,
quote:

if key defenders come off the board.
, I don't want the Saints trading up to get their 3rd or 4th option. If Fowler, Shelton, Beasley, Williams, Dupree, Gregory, Ray, Waynes, Winston, Mariota are flying early, that virtually guarantees that one of the following will be available:

Brandon Scherff
La'el Collins
Amari Cooper
DaVante Parker
Kevin White

There's just no defensive player I see worth giving up #31 for. Now, I wouldn't mind giving up a 4th rounder to move up two picks forward to guarantee Scherff but that's it.

Theme for this draft is edge rusher, wouldn't be opposed to them using that extra 3rd rounder to move up from 13 or 31.

That extra third is going to be traded to move up somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if it's used for either first.

Was coming here to post the exact same thing. It's all speculation so they can fill air time. If it happens, he looks like a genius; if it doesn't happen, then the guy they wanted fell to them.
