For the first time in about 4-5 years I feel like this team is about to hit a stride we haven't seen in a long time.

We are not relying heavily on old vets. We have a great mixture of talent young and old. The only thing we really don't have yet is a Jonathan Vilma but I think baring the god forsaken injury plague, were going to be wayyyy better than what the talking heads think we will be.

This is setting up for Brees and AD to ride off into the sunset in the best way you can.

This division is so stacked. I could see 3 of the 4 teams (NO, TB, ATL) making a strong run into January. TB definitely looks scary on paper, to me. They're built similar to us. Passing game is scary, if Martin stays healthy he's scary, defense is very underrated and young. That Dec. 31 game could shape up to be huge. With that said, I love what we've done this offseason on both sides of the ball. Losing Cooks will hurt some, but Brees can easily replace him because he's Brees. Definitely can't wait to see this defense on the field either. Very intriguing.

We have three middle linebackers on the Roster who have all showed promise at one point in their careers if even for a little while. Klein, Te'o, Anthony. One of the has to pan out right?

I think the key to our run this year is going to be the first play of Anthony. Is Stephone gets his game turned around, watch out.

I need to see them on the field first. I remember in 09 the defense had a different intensity during training camp under Williams. They had a goal line stances in one of their scrimmages where they shut down our offense from scoring on 4 straight plays.

Last year should have been a lesson to everyone to not get hyped up in the offseason. No disrespect to you all, but I still think they have another year of building to go before they are a legit SB caliber team. That being said, I will still watch every game and hope I am wrong.

The things that have me very optimistic was the firings of the shite coaches and the Ireland draft turnaround. They can only go up from here IMO.

Mike Nolan might turn out to be the best signing of the offseason.

Add in the free agency period too. No big flashes from big name players we saw in the past. It was lets go get solid contributors and build better depth. Something that hasn't been done around here in a long time

One of them panning out is much different than one of them being on Vilma's level (not that you said that).

Robertson panned out just fine last year, so at the very least we have a mid grade starter in that spot.

Anthony is the wild card. You pretty much know what the other guys bring at this point in their careers, but if it clicks for Anthony he could be very good. Still maybe not Vilma, but the next best thing we've had since (because right now Robertson has been the next best MLB we've had).

Why? Because they're coming off of consecutive non-winning seasons with a shite defense. If that's the case then last summer felt like the summer of '09 too. Actually, they're still lacking a football-fumbling, punt-muffing scat back who has a fondness for running either backwards or out of bounds.

This league is so equal these days, so full of parity-*, that teams rise and fall from year to year (some more than others, but still).

This just feels like an "upswing" season for this team: out of salary cap hell, Brees still dropping dimes to the tune of 4-5K yards a year...I could go on. Good free agency, good draft, overhaul of defensive staff, etc.

Anyway, this team may go 9-7 and still be far better than last season (and that may win the division, too). Whomever comes out of the South, division winner and wild card(s), should go places in the playoffs.

*-Except for that team in Foxboro, of course.

We could use a non-rapey Sharper too.

I'm just not sure if they are Super Bowl ready yet.

Playoff ready? Absolutely. I think we see a 2013 type season this year that keeps CSP and Brees around and then a 2009 year next year. I don't think we have any holes per say other than DE and maybe a big time target in goal line situations outside of Michael Thomas. I just think some of the rookies need a year before they are true difference makers.

Mainly, Williams and Lattimore and Ramcyzk are guys that can be huge for this team going forward but they need another year before they are true playmakers and difference makers. I'm also not sold on Okafor opposite Cam. I think a year from now, if we stay healthy, and maybe add a DE opposite Cam, we make that real run.

I'm not ready to say they'll be a Super Bowl contender. Though I do think they'll be a playoff team

No, Saints going into training camp with WLB, CB, and DE as open spots. I hope they can pick starters from other teams.

It all hinges on us staying healthy on defense and QB of course. When we are healthy we can play with anyone in the NFC. It seemed like every time we got someone back last year and we lost someone else.
