What's the point of delaying the inevitable? It's not like Rob is coming back next year anyway.

I can't find any contract info on him, but I can't imagine that we signed him for more than 3 years, and if that's the case I don't necessarily see him getting an extension this off season. And even if he has a year left, why would we put up with a third year of 30th ranked defense?

Why not promote a position coach and see if he can make something happen. If not, then get someone in from the outside for next year.

Wouldn't it make more sense to do it during a bye week?

Not really a reason to do it all imo, the position coach's are a bigger problem

Assuming this thread is for real, why not post this thought in the original thread?

When the defense still sucks arse, I'm going to laugh heartily. Ryan's just the goat right now everyone wants to blame. He's got nothing consistent to work with right now people. Dennis Allen is not going to miraculously fix all of our issues.

So who's to blame and how do we fix. Is it Ryan's fault for poor coaching, or choosing poor assistants?

He didn't choose the assistant coaches. That's the point.

We haven't had our starting lineup play together at any time this year. The secondary has been an absolute mess and we didn't have Ellerbee or Kikaha last week. 2nd and 3rd team guys are starting and we have rookies everywhere.

Guess what, you bring in a new DC and he has to deal with all this as well.

Injuries have played a big part(Keenan Lewis, Ellerbe, Byrd, & Rafael Bush done for the year). We're also starting 4 rookies(Anthony, Kikaha, Breaux, Richardson-udfa). Swann & Davison also play a good bit. We would be up shite creek without Cam Jordan & Kevin Williams. Vaccaro & John Jenkins are doing good enough. Akiem Hicks was doing absolutely NOTHING besides hurting us before we traded him. And lastly, Browner & Hawthorne suck complete balls.

He didn't choose his assistants

Also, we have $29 million in defensive players on our roster compared to $60 on offense

Of that $29 million, the top cap hits are by Byrd ($5.5m?), Lewis ~4m (been injured), Hawthorne (sucks), and Browner

I'm really failing to see why Ryan is fully to blame for this season's defense. Injuries, kicking Junior off the team, more injuries, trading Hicks. Absolutely awful free agents. What can you reasonably expect? Our personnel was supposed to look nothing like what we're putting on the field currently. I think talks of getting rid of him are way too premature.

No input. none. How can you possibly know this?

we hired Jeff Ireland, fired a bunch of dipshits, have a solid crop of young guys, and they are improving.

We need to fire a few assistant coaches, and invest in depth.

How many coaches did he hire/fire when he got here?

Pretty much. Simply put, that's exactly it. We're in the middle of a rebuild & injuries magnify the problem.

2012 Saints Defensive coaches:

Defensive Coordinator – Steve Spagnuolo
Defensive Line – Bill Johnson
Assistant Defensive Line – Travis Jones
Secondary – Ken Flajole
Assistant Secondary – Andre Curtis
Assistant Secondary – Mike Mallory

2013 Saints Defensive coaches:

Defensive Coordinator – Rob Ryan
Defensive Line – Bill Johnson
Secondary – Wesley McGriff
Assistant Secondary – Andre Curtis
Defensive Assistant – Marcus Ungaro
Defensive Assistant/Linebackers – Brian Young

Pretty good bit of change. You're telling me Ryan had zero input? You can say that with absolute certainty?
