What is pissin me off is the more I read about this is that there are only allegations of bounties. If there was a bounty system in place then to me the biggest criminals would be the bounty receivers - none of which have been identified for specific play or specific reward.

Where's the BEEF!

That was my first question from day one: if it was a three year program of pay for "cartoffs" then who got paid since there were no cartoffs.

Ever heard of a question mark?

You guys with the "it doesn't matter that no one was actually hurt" stance are ridiculous. You're going to tell me that grown men were trying to injure someone/anyone for the last three years and couldn't do it even one time??
Seems strange.

How can you possibly prove criminal intent in the violent game of football where every play is like a car crash.

You cannot. That is why you must rely on the calls on the field. If the Saints were PLAYING clean, then there was no bounty program - not one that was effective, anyway. This whole story has tons of holes.

Politicians being politicians, but hey, I'll take help wherever I can get it.

quote:

The Louisiana Legislature is asking the NFL to reconsider the penalties imposed on the New Orleans Saints because of its bounty program. The formal request received final legislative passage with a 28-1 Senate vote Monday.

quote:
In the resolution, lawmakers say there is "widespread public opinion throughout the state of Louisiana and beyond that the penalties imposed upon the Saints are too harsh and should be reconsidered."

I'm all for lower penalties, but this is just stupid. I would rather them had tell Benson to sign Drew with the quickness.

In that case my old football coach should be sitting in a cell in Angola since he always advocated ripping off the other teams heads and shitting down their necks.

Ha - my HS Coach broke his arm hitting our Center in the head during practice. The guy was all about "the kill".

I don't have a problem with the penalties IF! they show the evidence and open the books on other teams bounty programs.

Goodell is gone for many other reasons, like botching the "Lets Pretend to Protect the Players"
NFL fantasy show just before going to court for not giving a shite about the players.

Ditto. My HS coach had a brief ear-holing clinic in the endzone before a game my junior year. That shite is debilitating as hell if done correctly. It certainly isn't legal, but he felt it was something that could help win the game. Was the coach an irresponsible a-hole? Definitely. Was that a shitty thing to teach us as an edge to beat an opponent? Absolutely.

I guess my point is that...where is the proof that the players were given anything to aid them, or, in this case, pay them to injure other players beyond their own capabilities?...beyond the rules? Aggressive play is always encouraged. Making the QB feel the hurt is always encouraged. Until actual evidence that money exchanging hands is produced, it is hearsay and nothing else. Without an actual money trail , that's all it is. Unless Goodell has statements and proof of "yes, I accepted money for Warner going down", etc., then it is all a big pile o' shite.

About this ledger...

From what I can see, if it exists and it indicates a dollar value for "cart offs", then it's irrelevant whether or not it was for clean legal hits as Ginsberg maintains. Even if the Saints were never actually able to produce a cart off, it would still show that there was a bounty system for them, which goes a long way towards making Goodell's case, especially against the coaches.

Also interesting that Ginsberg said Vilma never gave money to injure etc. with "a dirty or unsportsmanlike hit". It doesn't matter if it was a clean or dirty hit if money was offered for producing a "cart off".

There's a lot riding on this ledger for all sides involved. It also begs the question if the players even knew about the ledger, all the workings of the "system", or that the dreaded cart offs were even a category for which payments were made. The whole snafu with the league "source" not being able to accurately and credibly name a single instance where a cart off occurred and payment was made makes me think it never happened.
