Unfortunately, based on the $$, we are pretty much stuck with Evans so we really only need one guard.

We're stuck with him on the team next season, but hopefully we won't have to play him. Ideally, I'd like to see us acquire one Guard in FA, and the other in the draft so that we aren't starting two rookies.

Vadal Alexander may not be a bad option at G in the 2nd round, but he may still be projected late first so I'm not quite sure

You almost feel sorry for the DT as Peat and Unger dbl him into the EZ. This is why I like him at Guard. If he gets moved to RT so be it, as long as we can find an equally effective player to fill the Guard position

I'm not going to do my usual BECAUSE LSU line here because I think you're absolutely correct. The Saints should have done their best to sign him.

Then again, I don't work for the Saints so I can't say they didn't.

Collins wanted to get out of the state. Been noted by him several times. Pretty evident by fact he was in Dallas and never entertained a plan B

Since this keeps getting posted this season without anything to back it up:

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton said the Saints looked into signing Collins and had conversations with "quite a bit with a number of people, including his agent."

I think he was looking forward to an opportunity further away from home (rather) than close to home, and I understand that," Payton said. "I think he found a good fit."

People keep saying we are stuck with Evans, I get your logic however I completely disagree with it same as in the case of Browner.......Yes even if they aren't on the team we will still pay them "dead money" next season, but right now the money is basically "dead" anyway considering the production we are getting (way more so with Browner), but to me the philosophy keeps up with subpar play and keeps the status quo thus not bringing another player that could make us better........We are paying the money regardless whether they are on the team or not, might as well save money in the process and put it towards making the team better

That being said it would be nice if we could trade Jahri for a 5th rd pick like we did Grubbs.....It seems to me like Jahri's play this year is better than Grubbs was last year, so it may be possible

The thing is, you only save $1.2 mil by cutting Jahri next year. While he has been below average the past few years, are you going to find a better Guard than him for $1.2 million? Probably not.

No you can't but if you upgrade at 1 or both guard positions in the draft or via FA's are Leleito and Senio as good or better back ups as Evans?

If yes then that 1.2 mil is worth it for other FA signings.

You don't have to find a better guard at 1.2M. If you can find a better guard for 4M it might make sense.

Honestly, it's close between Senio, Leleito and Jahri. As of now, I would probably give the edge to Jahri just for experience. However, by next offseason he'll be another year older, and perhaps another year worn down. I'm not saying Jahri is untouchable, I just don't think he's an automatic cut at only saving $1.2.

Andrus Peat is showing the potential to be a great guard and protecting the interior is too important for him to move to RT

In case anyone is wondering, Peat scored a +2.6 on PFF yesterday with green grades in both run blocking and pass blocking.

People like him so much at Guard because of how unbelievable bad our Guards are. He needs to be at RT to get the full use of his athleticisim IMO. G in FA and another in the earlier rounds of the draft and the OL will be a major strength going forward.

At the least he is giving us the flexibility and option of choosing best player available in FA or the draft at either G or T, gives us less chance at reaching

Just that $1.2M alone, it's unlikely, but I think I recall seeing Evans as a post June 1st cut being over $2M, and same thing with Browner...The money saved from each of those guys alone may not upgrade the guard/tackle spot, but the money from both totaling in the $4M range can, and then we can get pretty much any CB available in the league to sign and play better than Browner

A guy like Stephen Weisnewski would be an upgrade (based on production from years past, not sure how he is doing this year) and he signed a 1yr/$2.5M deal

Wouldn't mind that at all. Couldn't believe he signed such a small deal in Jacksonville. I couldn't tell you how he's played this year, but I remember coming from Oakland, he was thought to be one of the best Centers on the market, and could be even better at Guard.

Doesn't matter if you draft him. So what if the other 31 teams didn't take him. We could have. I don't care what the other teams do. Not drafting Collins was a mistake. We've wasted picks on worse.
