Saints' RB Alvin Kamara has had an unexcused absence from training camp the past three days and it is believe to be contract related, per sources.

Weird that he would show up to camp, go through weeks of practices, say he wasn’t going to worry about the contract stuff at all...

And then abruptly hold out.

He could “hold in” and just come up with an injury excuse to not play, but attend all meetings and practices. It’s happening with Ingram for the Chargers

FYI, Malcolm Jenkins has also been out for undisclosed reasons and Payton has refused to comment on he and Kamara.

Talks between Kamara and the Saints have grown closer. See if it can get over the hump.

I understand, the man wants to get paid, he wants to sign a new deal before the season starts. Our first assumption is that these guys are being selfish by doing this, but Kamara is really just trying to protect his financial interests, I get it. He plays this season without a new deal, has a devastating injury, he may never get that big pay day. I’m hoping he and the Saints can get a new deal done soon!

Watch it be something BLM related. Holding out for Jacob Blake to receive a medal of valor

He would have to miss more than 5 days to not get the accrued season

This isn’t a “hold out” ETA Yet

This shite came out of the horse years ago and now there is no way to put it back.

Does Kamara have one or two more years on his deal? If it is one year as in he is free for 2021 then I understand the desire for both club and him to get a deal done.

If he has two years left then I say STFU.

He is a free agent next offseason. This is the time to do it.

I understand him wanting to get paid, and I understand him holding out to to do (even if I don't like it)

But just like Chase, why the hell do you wait until now? If he wanted to hold out, then don't show up to camp, hold out, get your contract, them move on.

There is a reason why players show up to camp now under the new CBA

quote:

A player shall not receive an Accrued Season for any League Year in which the player is under contract to a Club and in which (i) he failed to report to the Club's preseason training camp on that player's mandatory reporting date

There’s also a reason he won’t take his “hold out” past 5 days

quote:

Players under contract who fail to report to camp on time or leaves the team for more than five days without permission will no longer be eligible to earn an accrued season for that year

Already over, actually. Lasted all of 2 weeks. The staff appreciated how involved he was with the team even though he wouldn't put on the pads or do any drills. They guaranteed his salary as a result.

Kamara doesn't want to be franchised so that's the urgency of it now.
When you outperform your rookie contract they want to get paid before the team can put the screws to you by using the franchise tag.
It's the unintended effect of the rookie deals agreed to under the last labor agreement.

They should pay him, based off his performance last year. If he wants to holdout after a down year then pay him based off his most recent season.
