Should we bring him home? Was still starting last year, could be a good vet presence in the rotation with our lack of bodies at the position. Let him finish where he started.

And best of all, since he was waived, won’t count towards the comp formula.

as a fan of the Saints for a long time, I am embarrassed to admit I do not remember him. however, if he is still going good - i say why not

Don't be. He was a 4th round pick that the Saints tried to stash on the PS. Pitt swooped in and signed him instead

He was released, so he wouldn't count against the comp pick formula. He is a pure run stuffer at this point, so he would fit well into our rotation.

Was one of the very few lsu players Payton drafted but then waived. Has hung around the league a long time doing the dirty work without much fanfare. Ended up being one of the worst cuts of the Sean Payton regime in hindsight.

Depth for rotation. Can't be a huge market for a 36 yr old DT. Not a bad idea.

Didn't he start (at LSU) by another name, or am I completely off base?

You are thinking of Rahim Alem who was originally Al Jones, brother of Chad Jones.

I'd take him as a cheap rotational run stopper

Man came to LSU with a lot of fan fair, but never played great ball there. Goes to NFL and became a very good and respected DT. Somewhat like D. Hunter, had 1 sack I think with LSU his senior year. Now he is a feared DE making 10’s of millions.
I would think it’s maturing late or coaching.?

I think Hunter’s lack of production was more so due to scheme and coaching.

The Vikings made fun of Brick Haley for how bad a job he did with D. Hunter.

Not really sure with Al Woods. I do know that Woods came from a very small school & played against questionable competition...to say the least.

It was scheme with Hunter at LSU. I remember bitching every week about him not being used effectively.

In Sean Payton fashion. We traded up to draft him, then cut him for someone else. He has played 13 yrs

Woods wasn’t really a fit for LSU’s style of D

Just a case of a guy who grew up in rural La and followed his heart to LSU like most of us probably would’ve done. Probably should’ve gone to Texas or bama. But he’s been in the league over a decade and won a title at LSU so it worked out for him.

If he wants to come home and play for cheap, absolutely. Give us more flexibility in the draft to go BPA and not have to reach for DT. We can start the season with him, Roach, and the 2 signees.

Strangely I saw Rahim Alem walking by himself by that Wal-Mart on Tchoup in New Orleans last year. Wearing LSU gear. It seemed strange for some reason or another.

He would provide good depth if we can get him for cheap.
