I maintain that if we win that game, we win the Super Bowl, and Bountygate never happens. No way Roger tarnishes the marketing of the defending Super Bowl Champs.

I'm going to link my frick Off Bountygate thread from that year.

I hate the 49ers more than any team because of this game.

2 moments I'll never forget that night.

AThe aboslute most upset I've ever been as a Sports fan of any team.

Followed by knowing for sure that I loved my girlfriend at the time and I'd make her Mrs. Breesus.

I die a little every time the very unfortunate memory of that game crosses my mind. frick Vernon Davis. And frick Gregg Williams for not anticipating the seams he would use and frick him for using Roman Harper of all people on him.

at that time i had said brees should have a shot at winning 3 super bowls here. that was #2. so much for that #3. let's just get #2 now. beggars can't be choosers. Just one more and most here will be elated.

no reason to be blitzing those drives at all.

You keep them out the EZ and make them run clock. defend the goal line.

Live or die by the blitz. That was Gregg's philosophy as he loves the high risk, high reward stuff.

I foolishly watched a replay of that game a few months ago. Lost in the final 1:50 is how well the defense played up to that point. Williams went brain dead and greedy. The best Saints team in history...poof...

What you say is absolutely true, but also if the Drew hadn't thrown that pick and if the Offense had woken up and tackled the guy before he got to the Saints 3, maybe the Saints wouldn't have had to crawl out of a 17-0 hole at the beginning of that game and the outcome could have been a lot different. Sigh...

And of course its been a long slow painful slide to what the Saints have become now, either due to no fault of their own (Bountygate BS F Ooodell for life!!!) or their fault (Bad drafting, bad FA signings, bad coaching, etc.)

BUT the optimist in me says there is light at the end of the tunnel...

This is THE game that will live in Saints Infamy. If we win this game we most likely make it to another Super Bowl. We were that good. I still have nightmares about this game. It is just sickening. Thanks for bringing this up.
