POINTS OF EMPHASIS

Field Goal/Extra Point Rush Tactics

*Game officials will monitor and strictly enforce the rules pertaining to illegal acts committed by the defensive team while trying to block field-goal and extra-point attempts during the 2016 season, including:

*Making forcible contact below the waist of offensive blockers.

*Grabbing an offensive blocker and pulling him to the side or toward the ground to create space or a gap for a teammate to rush through.

*Using the hands or other parts of the body to push off an offensive blocker to gain leverage in an effort to block the kick.

2016 Rules Changes and Points of Emphasis directly from the NFL

frick Roger Goodell. frick the League Office. And most of all, frick Goodell’s puppet, Senior Vice President of Officiating, Dean Blandino.

That's what you get when you promote a former comedian to Senior VP of officiating. I bet many of yall didn't know that. This is why league officiating has become a joke.....literally.

quote:

Sometime around 10 years ago, before he had a wife and kid and one of the most stressful jobs in the NFL, Blandino did stand-up routines on the Upper East Side at the New York Comedy Club, Stand Up NY and Gotham Comedy Club.

Chris Mazzilli, who started Gotham nearly 20 years ago, remembers Blandino's face but can't recall his act. He said Blandino most likely did sets that lasted 15 or 20 minutes.

If the NFL does not acknowledge this missed call that allowed the block... I will be pissed, but not surprised.

They're saying he wasn't grabbed, which is complete bullshite and an idiotic interpretation

The rule is intended to prevent exactly what happened

Blandino's explanations are always bullshite. The Browns RB Duke Johnson had an obvious recovery of his own fumble a few weeks back yet the Redskins were rewarded the ball instead.

Blandino's explanation.

quote:

“It’s quick but we want our officials if they have clear evidence we want to rule immediately,” Blandino said. “We don’t want an extended scrum. It’s a player safety issue.”

After taking a 20-17 lead, the Browns turned the ball over on their next three possessions. The Redskins went three and out and punted after Compton’s recovery, but Josh Normanthen intercepted Cody Kessler to set up the Matt Jones touchdown run that provided the final points in a 31-20 win.

“The player coming out of the pile with the ball is not sufficient evidence [to overturn] because as we know, the ball can change hands at the bottom the pile,” Blandino said. “There’s never an angle that shows a Cleveland recovery.

"We don't have evidence as to whether Washington or Cleveland recovered it, so we have to go with what’s called on the field."
