10 Greatest Saints Draft Picks: 8th Round and Beyond

10. BOB GRESHAM (8th round--1971): Played two seasons with the Saints. Was the team's 2nd leading rusher in 1971 (383 yards) and the team's leading rusher in 1972 (381 yards).
9. MIKE STRACHAN (9th round--1975): Saints 14th all-time leading rusher with 1,902 yards. Was the team's leading rusher in 1975 with 668 yards.
8. JOE OWENS (9th round--1969): DE with the Saints from 1971-1975 who started 31 games and had 4 fumble recoveries.
7. CHRIS PORT (12th round--1990): Started 50 games at guard for the Saints from 1991-1995, 31 between 1993 and 1994.
6. BRIAN HANSEN (9th round--1984): Five seasons with the Saints (16 overall). Was a Pro Bowl punter in his rookie season.
5. BOB POLLARD (11th round--1971): Was one of the best Saints defensive players of the 1970s. Had 152 career starts, 90 with the Saints. Full time starter from 1971 to 1977. Had 12 fumble recoveries and 1 TD with the Saints.
4. HOKIE GAJAN (10th round--1981): Was coming into his own and having a promising career at RB before injuries ended his career. 1,358 career rushing yards and 13 offensive TDs. His best season was 1984 when he led the NFL in yards per carry (6.0) and had 903 yards from scrimmage.
3. TOI COOK (8th round--1987): 7th in Saints history with 17 INTs. Full-time starter from 1989 to 1993, starting 74 games. Two pick-sixes. Had 6 INTs in 1992.
2. JIM WILKS (12th round--1981): One of the best DEs in team history. 9th in Saints history with 45.5 sacks. Also had 7 fumble recoveries. Was a full-time starter for eleven seasons, playing in 183 games and starting 154.
1. DANNY ABRAMOWICZ (17th round--1967): 7th all-time for Saints in receptions (309). 4th in yards (4,875). 6th in TD receptions (37). Arguably the best Saint of the dismal first 10 years. First team All Pro in 1969 when he had 1,015 receiving yards. Was the 420th pick in the 1967 NFL Draft.
