I just listened to it and there's really not all that much that's enlightening other than when Woj asks him if he feels he'll keep his job, he is unable to give a definitive answer.

quote:

Scott Kushner? @ScottDKushner 2 hours ago

Alvin Gentry told Woj: "I feel like I'll be back" with #Pelicans next season. Full quote:

That's just ridiculous that the team hasn't made a decision by now.

Kumar tweeted a few quotes.

quote:

Kumar? @FearTheBrown 1 hour ago

Gentry on playing two bigs: "Obviously 7 seconds or less is not the way we are going to play"

"I thought initially when I took the job this could be a team we could very much play uptempo with"

"Now I think with the two big guys...we'll play a lot of high low stuff... I think those two guys can coexist very easily"

He also said the biggest thing to figure out was integrating them on defense, not offense.

The DRtg for the AD/DC 2 man lineup was 99.6 which is better than the Pels 105.6 post ASB rating.

I think Cousins can be pretty good on defense if he's checked in. I see a lane clogging wide body that can change where teams take shots from and a rebounding machine like we had with the best version of Pels Asik, only he can also average 25+ ppg on offense. That's another reason we really need a good lead guard, someone that can get Cousins the ball in the post. Get the big fella easy offense and he'll try more on defense.

good god i'm sick and tired of the fricking injury excuse.

You have a supposed top 5-10 player in the league that was healthy all season and isn't some young rookie anymore, and you were terrible. Either AD aint' that great, or you really suck as a coach. I'll go with really suck as a coach.

Just want to add that a 99.6 DRtg is very good, better than any team put up for the season.

What could be the reasoning for Gentry not being told one way or the other about his job status? What more information do they need to make a decision?

Maybe a sense of stability through free agency?

Maybe they are being smart and seeing if their top target is even interested in the job, and if not, they will stay with Gentry for the time being.

maybe they don't have anyone in mind that they think would be a massive upgrade at thisi point.

maybe they just don't give a shite.

Scott Kushner was on Jake Madison's Locked on Pelicans podcast last week and he said something along the lines of Loomis/Lauscha take the approach of doing their due dilligence and not rushing decisions. If you told me that board of directors of a major company spent a week or 2 evaluating their CEO I wouldn't think that was excessive. The real problem is the stupid NFL draft pushing that evaluation process back 2 weeks further than it would otherwise be.

Why aren't the draft picks signed yet? I only see 2 first rounders signed so it's not just the Saints. Are the draft pick signings and Loomis' NFL duties going to last until next Monday/Tuesday?

I honestly don't know why a vast majority of NFL rookies take a while to sign. The new CBA pretty much eliminated any room for negotiation.

The only NFL holdout last season was Joey Bosa, and that was because the Chargers were being assholes about his contract. They were the only team that really cared about offsets in their 1st rounder's contract (so if he were cut before the end of his rookie deal and signed with another team, they would get most if not all of the money to help pay the guaranteed money that they ate when they cut him). Few first rounders (much less top 5 picks) are cut during their rookie deals. Dude ended up being one of the best players (not just rookie) in the NFL last season, which further demonstrated how stupid the Chargers were.

So as for Loomis's duties, they could extend for quite a while, but he's not exactly going to be doing any intense negotiations with agents.

Gentry is in Chicago at the draft combine. Looking at players.
Also he will represent Pels at draft lottery (in studio, not where the procedure will take place).

Think about it.

1 + 1 = 2

Well you got to be a little objective.

Anderson and Gordon left in the offseason.

You started the season without Holiday, Evans, and Pondexter. Looking at the roster that is bad. The team was 2-10 before Holiday even played any minutes.

So it would be a very big deal if they brought back Holiday and started the year with a healthy Holiday, Davis, and Cousins.

I've been conditioned to agree by optimism but look at what good coaches are doing with far lesser talents that holiday/pondexter/evans

Sure Pop's a great coach but they also are very selective about who is on the team. Just think of all of the years and assets wasted on Tyreke's tantalizing talent. Demps gave Monty and Gentry each a big money starter that they didn't want to play (Tyreke and Asik). Successful teams have coaches, the FO and ownership all on the same page working towards the same goal of winning, not ticket sales for Loomis and staying off the hot seat for the HC and GM.

The biggest reason I've wanted JVG most isn't because I think he's a good basketball mind. With his power demands it would mean ownership, the front office and the HC would all be on the same page. The same could be said for Cal, someone not many of us have hopes for as being a good coach. But what Loomis hiring Cal would signify would be pretty important in terms of organizational direction IMO.

What team made the playoffs in the West with less talent than our season starting roster minus those three guys?
